PvE Server or PvP?

I remember having kind of the same attitude when I played Retail on a PvP Server back when I was 14 and thought I was the shit because I haven't seen many people being a higher PvP Rank/having more HK's and many more reasons.

Now that I got more mature, it's safe to say that zzxx still has a few years to come. Still unsure why including his Warlock that's banned in the signature, that's like getting a tattoo for every man you robbed to get in a Gang in Prison. It's pathetic, not great or something to brag about. "...-lol" in the name, meh - also something I did until I was 16. "?? players everywhere..." being answered with "get good" is beyond NA Primetime Barrens chat Level of stupidity. Did you post on the Forums on Retail (assuming you played on a PvP Server back then) about every "carebear" on the PvE Servers?

If you have to claim "being the best", you are not the best at all.

3-4x retail population makes PvP server unplayable if you are not a teenager.

PvP realm:

+Further along the patch progression (currently at patch 1.7)
+Much higher population, easy to find groups for PvE stuff, good economy

-Tons and tons of ganking, hope you enjoy getting rekt by people 10+ levels higher than you as soon as you step outside of the level 10-20 areas
-Much higher population leads to big server lag when more than 7000 people are online


PvE realm:

+Fresh start, lots of people in leveling zones
+Lower population, no lag

-Capped at 2500, queues after that
-Leveling zones currently swamped with players, good luck getting any quest done
-On patch 1.4, IIRC, no Dire Maul or Maraudon, I think

Not from my experience. I still have a harder time on the pvp server at low levels than the pve. Not empty, but much much more manageable.

PvP if you like some thrill and open world pvp. Yes you're going to get ganked (esp. when you first move to contested zones) but there are also fair fights, helping your mates against the opposing faction and learning a lot about game mechanics.

If you're in for a more comfy and less chaotic (smaller population) experience then go PvE and don't look back. You won't have to keep an eye around you at all times (not necessarily a good thing)

It depends on when you play and where. Yesterday my 58 Priest was killed several times by a group of 3-4 Horde who were after the same mobs I was in Felwood. I was then killed by two Horde in the tunnel to Winterspring. Later on, two Horde saw me and rode on by... but the next two ganged up and killed me.

What it really boils down to are people who are desperate for HKs or being dicks vs people like me who just want to level and start raiding. If I didn't have a 60 Mage and a soon-to-be 60 Priest on the PvP realm, I'd be playing on the PvE realm.

I look forward to disparaging comments from zzxx about this. Perhaps he will even write at a third grade level instead of his usual kindergarten level remarks.

Depends on the type of experience you want.

I would always say PvP except for this particular server. The game in vanilla was only meant for about 2500 people. It got upgraded later once expansions were added and the map size increased but it was never ever at the point even with 12 million subscribers where the servers had no population cap, I think 4000 was highest, maybe 3500.

Point is once you get past level 20 and have to go to your first contested zone you will realize what most are saying about the ganking. I played on a PvP server back in the day, Bleeding Hollow, it was the most populated of the Vanilla servers and I think it stuck like that in BC as well. I got ganked and ganked but it was never like it is now. In level 20-50 zones prepare to be harassed AT LEAST once when going from one quest area to another. You will constantly be hearing about ganks in general chat and be running across enemies non-stop, most of which can take you on easily. This is simply because there is 3 - 4 times the peak retail vanilla population.

PvP servers are great and will always be my first choice, I even played til level 50 on this one but I find myself constantly looking over my shoulder and doing corpse runs, much more than I ever did back in the day and I feel it takes away from the way its meant to be.

PvE is great fun. I guess you can say its for the more casual but thats because theres a lot less stress when questing. There are still plenty of hardcore raiding guilds on both sides that take raiding and dungeons seriously . They even have the proper population cap which helps with grinding mats and mobs.
