With or without bots, there is clearly a lot of people. So it kind of works both ways: the fact that we are having massive world pvp, etc. doesn't prove that 5k is actually real, but also, even if 5k is not real, we still have more than enough players at the moment.
At any rate, I don't think it's healthy to ward off criticism by boasting player numbers.
There are people everywhere. It has to be real. The Who List is accurate. How many of those are bots though is the real question you should ask. Well, if you search for bots, you will find them. My own estimate after doing some bot hunting would be about 75 online at peak hours, owned by lazy people who don't want to level themselves.
I'm not saying I believe his claims, just that it would be better to respond in a more rational fashion.
