Naturally, it's a normal thing to do. If a world epic drops, everyone hits need unless anything has been agreed on.

It's not his rules. It's how the underlying assumption works. You're simply tweaking the system out of pure and raw greed.
Imagine dungeons when people are undergeared and a BoE green drops. The person who is undergeared, will probably hit need on said green BoEs to improve his set. Nobody else will hit need, because well, they're not going to use it. No feathers are ruffled.

I have had Hanzo's Sword drop for me, a rogue in team did need it, he asked about it, I said go for it, in spite of the protests of some randomer warlock. Rogue got to need it, he equipped the item, everyone moved on.

The fact it is a blue BoE, doesn't change the principle. Same with a purple BoE. You're supposed to need it only if you are going to use said item. The fact these excuses and misconstrued points of view are put out there, just show how petty greed moves tiny people like you. And sadly, you're probably the majority.

----------

To be honest, nowadays I prefer it when there's no purple/high end blue BoE drop in my dungeons. People can't seem to come to grips with it. I was in a team where Krol Blade dropped. The sheer amount of drama that ensued when one person won the item after a greed roll (we had no fury/rogue dps) was proverbial. I didn't win the item, but it was fine, moved on, again the principle is the same of a green BoE. Yet my 'team' started a flame war while pulling, that ended with wiping us in an otherwise easy dungeon

Of course I also have the opposite cases where an epic item dropped (Kang, Warden Staff), and after the single roll people got over it and proceeded casually. The whole issue boils down to personal character and moral fiber. And precisely for this reason, I prefer to not have BoE drops. Given any randomly selected population sample, like this server, the majority of the time, you will run into shudra scum. Like you :)

Nice personal attacks, you seem like a person with high character.

Look you don't have to agree with me but here's how I and possibly many others view this sort of situation. Greed is if you want to be considered for the item if no one wants it. You greed items you have little desire in obtaining. When a 300g+ boe drops and you need gold you should be able to roll need on it. There's really no drama at all if people used this logic. And i'm not saying this because I'm some sort of greedy person. I think this is the most fair system when looking at high end BOEs and it results in little drama except for the truly greedy people. So if I played mage and freezing band dropped I wouldn't be upset if my entire group rolled need on it despite the fact that I would equip it. How is this greedy? I'm literally giving everyone equal opportunity at the item. The greed and selfishness occurs when people feel so entitled to claim that an item belongs to them above anyone else such as this warrior.

I mean everyone needs on traveler's backpacks for this very reason. The person who wins the backpack can use it or in most cases sell it for gold and I never see any drama with this.

This situation doesn't seem as black/white as most ninjaing cases. My knee jerk reaction is to agree with OP and join the lynch mob, but after taking the time to read over the replies and think about it, I see the point of people saying it's not that big of a deal. It's really similar to if a mount dropped in an instance. You can't tell me people wouldn't need on it, even if some of them might not even have the training yet. There are just some items that you can't expect people to pass on, BoP or BoE.

That being said, I do think it might have been a little dickish for the druid to need on this item, in this group. Clearly, the people the warrior was with were willing to pass on the item instead of needing on it also (you assume they didn't want the gold too? They were just less greedy than the druid / acknowledged the warrior's capability to use it more than them), he should have double checked to see if the warrior planned to use the item from the quest. At the same time, the warrior should have actually used his words and talked about it rather than just saying "mine" like a two year old demanding candy.

Situations like this are why you should always try to group with people you know and trust, and when you are running a place that has a chance to drop items such as this, discuss how they are to be dealt with before you kill anything. If there is a problem, then set master loot. If that still causes problems with people, then find other people to play with. There are tools to be used to keep these things from happening, you just have to actually take the time to use them.
I'm just here to heal and make puns.

What he did is ok. Always need roll high value BoE/consumables (Diamond, Recipes, Patterns, Blues/Epics). Exception may be Righteous Orb cause you can expect to have more than 1 drop per instance, so you pass once you get 1.
The way i normally do this is insta press need when something like this drops. Most of the time the rest of the group/raid quickly follows. We all roll need and carry on.

In the long run it is the most honest way of doing things. Your group has no guarantee that you would actually use it.
Also for the spec discussion etc. I remember tanking strat UD on my fury warrior. Cloak dropped me and rogue needed. He won. I congratulated him and he started cussing at me saying that i tried to ninja his loot...A lot of people will always want to apply the rules that benefit them most ofc.

Of course from an individual players perspective this way of rolling is often very postive (like for the druid who wins the roll on an item he can't use) or negative (like for a warrior who meant to use that item but lost it). But at a larger scale things are more balanced this way.

Also i think the druid shouldn’t act silly and claim he has a warrior main, then fake DC etc. That indeed points toward ill intentions and i probably wouldn’t risk running any high level dungeon with him. Because this does make him look like the kinda guy to need on BOP items he doesn't need.
ot because of his need roll, just the fake warrior main and fake DC... Roll need like a man goddamnit.

I also think its stupid the mage didn’t roll. Never instapass items like this. He could have won it for you.

So conclusion; all 3 of you did dumb stuff.

So :
- warrior was farming dm and too make things faster he did in fury/dps gear ;
- forror drops and druid ninja to sell for gold , claiming that since he wasnt in tanking gear he has a right to roll need on an item he can't use ;
- gm of the guild that druid is part of comes, and gives his opinion proving he has no morals or a clue about this game ;

Conclusion : blacklist the druid and guild
