Insulting others on the internet is not different than attacking them in real life.
Even the law says that - look at facebook or even this server rules..

the internet, and by extension games like wow, are examples of nearly unadulterated free speech.

in real life, even in europe and the US, we don't have true freedom of speech. for example in some european countries it is illegal to deny the holocaust. in the US (and i'll assume in europe) you can certainly break the law based on things you say (inciting violence for instance). you can also face non-legal consequences for things you say. for example, it's not illegal to espouse racism in the US, but you will probably be fired if your employer hears about about you going around saying racist shit.

there are benefits and drawbacks to the kind of unadulterated free speech that exists on the internet. personally, i think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. i don't appreciate the casual racism that you see every day on the internet but i think we gain something by having absolutely no filter on speech as well. i also think that any attempt to start moderating what people say on the internet would be a mistake in the long run.

so yeah, i don't think punishing racism is a good idea.

Oh no the fagget pony fucker got blown out in the other thread, so he started another one to try and intimidate everyone into bowing down his thought crime dictates.

Seriously stop trying to communicate with humans, we are offended by your bestiality inclinations. Please admins remove this deviant, I am afraid to get my epic mount lest this individual should molest it and cause it to become skittish.

The only solution that might work out for you, Original Poster, is if the server staff disabled access to the forums for every section excluding Off Topic to every forum account here. Then, forum accounts would have a mandatory link to a Game Account (only one forum account per Game account) with a requirement of a level 20 character being possessed so that the Forum account could access other areas of the forums.

This is similar to what League of Legends had in place a while back, and a few other WoW private servers used something similar. It meant that players took the forum rules much more seriously as they had something to lose for screwing around. Interestingly enough, forum peer pressure would look at an account with a bare minimum level 20 character listed on it and usually reply with "lol post on ur main scrub" and dismiss what anyone had to say, unless they were high level.

But this is too elegant of a solution for the devs to have considered ahead of time before it was needed. Brainpower and a supply of vision is lacking with the higher ups, no doubt. You could try making a suggestion for it.

I'm so glad you're not a GM. You'd probably make the realm PvE like you were crying about yesterday, and then ban anybody who doesn't agree with you or hurts your feelings.

At least your threads are entertaining.

Remember, if freedom of speech can be misused then there is none.

No, I decided I wanted to clarify my position on repugnant speech. I am simply asking people to refrain from such language because it is hurtful and oppressive. You are free to keep using it and expose yourself to be a hate monger.

a) If I had the ability to create and run a realm, it would be PvE. But the devs here want a PvP realm and I accept that, warts and all. You clearly misunderstood my posts. Is English your second language?

b) My feelings aren't hurt personally; the language is offensive to many people and is not tolerated in polite conversations in person. I am politely asking people to refrain from such language. I cannot punish nor police anyone, so I am simply asking people to be civil. I suppose that's too much to ask?

Im assuming OP is talking about /world for the most part?

Just turn that shit off. It took me about 5 seconds to figure out its packed full of people that think their edgy or cool calling people niggers and faggots. There are more than enough people in zone chat to still find groups and trade so youre not missing anything imo.
