This could easily be split between two servers with no negative effects. Honestly, it's not the PVP that bothers me, it's the World of Tagcraft we're playing. I've quit questing altogether and just grind mobs, it's quicker and less stressful.
Another thing, going to insert obligatory subjective statement here: Some people need to get off their PVP high-horse. This game isn't a true PVP game no matter how much you want it to be, nor has it ever been. This game doesn't even do the core mechanics of PVP that well. There are no consequences. Go play UO, Darkfall, EVE, or a plethora of other pvp-focused MMO's and come back to talk about how L33T of a PVPer you are.
Note: I'm not anti-PVP, but seriously? It's like me saying I'm a pro blitzball player and you need to l2blitzball.
Splitting the population is the worst possible thing they could do.
The more the merrier is what i say, if you want to play on a dead realm go play on empty dream, sorry but i like playing with 5k-6k other players on the same realm and the massive population is why so many play here in the first place.
I disagree; People are here because this is the most complete and accurate server for Vanilla-play. Yes, the healthy population is a factor but has diminishing returns once you pass a certain number. Retail had what, 2500 cap? As of this moment, there's 7k online. The world itself wasn't designed for that many players.
Does it benefit anyone if there's 100 players in a select section of a zone versus 50? Does it matter if you have 12 targets in view vs 6?
Questing is quite literally broken because of the population. You can get around it by grouping and/or grinding, but that's not how Blizzard intended the game to be played.
Give me one benefit of 7k population over say 3.5k other than pug instance groups (Which is overshadowed by guild grouping anyways and the fact that it's about ratio of groups to members looking which would stay the same even with a lower pop)
