As you may have noticed, this server here does not have 16 developer active. They said so themselves. It was just 16 devs contributing to the current state of the core. Thats not the point here though.

You guys are getting excited about the wrong aspects. Most private servers are ran by a VERY small staff. Not even feenix has alot developing power or GMs anymore (if they ever had...).

Will DDoS become a problem? Pretty certain it will. How the staff handles it can't be said. Not yet.
The most important part is what you as a community want. Do you give in to competitors DoS/DDoS attacks and go back to other server who are most likely the source for these attacks?

Spot on! The hardest thing for new projects is to find good GMS. Reliable, honest, incorrupt and active.

I've never understood why pure donations are so rarily found on private servers. I would gladly donate some money here and there for the service provided, without the need of vanity items.

That'd be great. Maybe a subscription function on your account (optional ofx)where you can choose the the amount yourself. And then you get maybe a cool forum title like "subscriber" or something.

Same for myself, Id be willing to donate 5-10 euros here and there for a quality server. Sadly, most people don't seem to feel that just being able to play the server is worth a few euros a month. I everyone that enjoyed this server when it comes out gave 1-2 euros a month, I think we would be golden.

I remember an old COD clan I was member of. We had a progress bar on the website of a certain amount. Every month that progress bar had to be full (with donations). If we didn't reach it, we would lose our servers.
For us it was a natural habit to donate a couple of bucks every month. And what we got in return where a couple of server where we could play admin on during clan battles. We pay to go to the movie theater for entertainment. Why not pay a little every month for some Nostalrius entertainment?

DDos lasting for weeks/months is potentially devastating, there are some network programs like TOR, which could help during that time, sadly at the expense of latency.

I would volunteer for gm, if i could continue playing as well, which might be undesirable, since risky.
Is there any info on this from staff?
Failing to succeed does not mean failing to progress.

Definitely, This.
It's also a matter of "visual impact".
In general, If every single day, you see that the donations goal has not been reached, it puts you on the desire to actively contribute with some euros (and for casual gamers who come from outside of Nostalrius, in case they are not so loyal/attached to the server, contrary to us, at least they'll think of this thing from a standpoint of their own interests (let's face it, people out there who do not think only to themselves are like black swan, especially nowadays)
But even if they were mere selfish/opportunist people, this reasoning scheme would still used by many of them:
no donations>server may shut down>characters lost>whining
so better:
donate something>server up>personal selfishness satisfied
