Can you guys, pmizz, Rise and others, explain the definition of the word 'greed' to me please?

Greed = I don't need to wear and I would like the gold from selling it, but I don't NEED it (the gold or the item).

Need = I can equip this OR, I can barely afford my skills, I need money for my mount, I NEED THIS (the gold or the item)

I'm sorry you think my definition of greed is skewed, but you seem to have trouble understanding the word NEED. When it comes to BoP items NEED = using the items, it's not the same for BoE.

I am not talking about your newly invented WoW ingame definition. I am talking about the actual definition of the word greed that you can find in a dictionary.

Hint: it's pretty much what you said after the word "OR".

You can ask anyone who just hit 60 if they need gold for their mount; almost all of them will say yes.

Greed is when you have enough but you still want more (being "greedy")

Need is when you don't have enough, you need something

If you want to say, "You can only need on this sellable (BoE) item if you need it to wear, not if you need it to sell it"
That's fine if everyone agrees, but it shouldn't be the default.

It sounds to me like the people in this thread were in a group where someone needed something to sell and people who don't know what the word "need" means accidentally selected greed.

Yes with greens clearly need if its an upgrase and someone needing on everythig should be kicked.

But the amount of people needing on blue boe and not equipping its just the lesser of two evils

How is it the lesser of two evils? It's equally as bad. You segregate yourself with your mentality by needing for gold as it's not the norm of WoW loot rules. I'm stating my view from what's been observed as the norm throughout wow.

I hope you're never in my group with that attitude towards loot rules.

And Rise, I disagree. It's exactly the same. And if that attitude is shared among the majority of the players on the server (which it's not), everyone will need on BoEs. I feel like you're taking advantage of the fact that it's the norm to Greed on blue/epic BoEs, and then roll Need, so that you know that you will get the item. I hate players like you.

An epic drops worth 200 gold. That epic sells for 200 gold and I buy myself an upgrade. You have no right to tell anyone that they can't roll on BoE blues+. Everyone in the group earned the drop, everyone has just as much right to ownership. If one person does not agree with letting someone take a very valuable piece that he could sell to get himself an upgrade, then that's the way it is.

The rules don't change.

It's only greedy to need on something if someone else who needed it accidentally selected greed. If everyone selected need for something they needed, everyone has the same chance to get it.
If you selected greed (which means you didn't need it, you were simply being greedy) You don't have the right to be upset about someone else getting it for ANY reason (to sell or otherwise) because you just said you didn't need it at all by not selecting need.

Indeed. Luckily they seem to be a small minority with weird definitions of need and greed. so far I have only been in groups that roll need for equip and greed for sell. On any kind of item.

I only run with people in voice chat, that way people can explain what they need and why; the group always agrees on loot rules. If it's weird to roll need on an item you need than I guess I'm weird

Final response on this issue because as said you are luckily a minority.

You don't need the item. You need the gold. But everyone needs the gold, therefore you ought to roll greed. Leaving the need roll open for someone who wants to equip it.

It's really not rocket science. And unfortunately for people who think like you, you will be named and shamed as a ninja if you put this into practice in a random group. And rightly so.
