Went LBRS with random group tonight and Greater Fire Protection Potion recipe dropped. Bodio aka Lacari of Dreamstate decided to roll over main for the recipe just to mail it to his alchemy char. He even offered me 15g , what a cool guy ;)

Here's my input on the whole thing.

Need - If you need it, then Need roll it. This means an upgrade in gear, or a recipe that you need and will immediately use. If you are not planning to immediately use it you don't actually "need" it. Example: Two warriors in a group, one tanking, one DPS. A shield drops. Both warriors can use it, the tank needs it, the dps doesn't, tank should get the shield. If tank has a better shield, item defaults to the second warrior. If the second warrior doesn't need it for an upgrade, it's an open roll for disenchant/money.

Greed - If you plan on selling it then you want it out of greed, therefore Greed roll. Example: Two warriors in a group, one tanking, one DPS. A shield drops. Both warriors can use it, the tank needs it, the dps wants to disenchant it, tank should get the shield. If the tank has a better shield, it's an open roll for disenchant/money.

Chests - Since you don't know what's in the chest before opening it and all the items inside will be BoE everyone does a /roll for it and the winner gets the loot.

Exceptions - BoE blues and epics. A lot of the time people will say they absolutely need the item for their character they actually turn around and sell it. You don't know who is going to be honest and who will lie through their teeth out of greed. If the item can universally be profitable for everyone like a BoE blue or epic item or recipe then everyone rolls Need (originally was Greed but someone would always wait until everyone rolled and then roll Need).

That's just my 2 cents, you decide how it's spent.

Hey just ran SM Library. A chest appeared, we all rolled for it the priest (Luek) won the roll. It was locked and the rogue in our group (Shellymarsh) did not open and his hunter friend (Miraclle) spoke for him "saying he doesn't have the skill." So we ignore it and finish the dungeon. Afterwards we were looking for the book for the quest and when I left the instance it was only the hunter/rogue/priest left in the dungeon. Luek apparently found the locked chest missing and the rogue picking up the items. So essentially he lied to steal the loot in the chest and took the green item that Luek rightfully won by winning the roll. He eventually tried to sell it to luek but they argued and basically left, I kicked the rogue but the hunter left quickly after. Here are pictures.

You don't need the item. You need the gold. But everyone needs the gold, therefore you ought to roll greed. Leaving the need roll open for someone who wants to equip it.

It's really not rocket science. And unfortunately for people who think like you, you will be named and shamed as a ninja if you put this into practice in a random group. And rightly so.

The tool of the year award, goes to you my friend. Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, people who think like him are most definitely in the majority. I really wish I could group with you and have a elemental staff drop just to watch you fucking squirm about your moral dilemma. But please continue to tell me why I should give a 50g+ item to a guy I don't fucking know. Please tell me how being in the group that had the drop for them makes me suddenly not have any fucking say on loot rules because of some pretentious high minded moral asshole. Please continue to lord your "lofty morals' over people in some sad attempt to feel superior, its fucking hilarious.

Then why don't you need on literally anything that drops? I'm pretty sure that you'd earn more than 50g just for vendoring all the stuff.

i don't think rolling need on a boe so you can sell it makes you a ninja.

an asshole, sure. but not a ninja.

if you need a boe you should equip it.

Thank you for your "final response" on this topic, but I still maintain that an item and its value are one and the same. I'm sure your opinion is valued elsewhere.
