They are catering to people that will play here for a month then quit, not the people who play all the time and will continue to play here for years , they are not letting the forums be what they are supposed to be.
I don't find the staff moderating these forums to exhibit SJW behavior at all. Keep in mind this is a private server run by volunteers. They are not actively seeking other outlets demanding those in charge change stuff to fit their agenda. Instead, they made something of their own volition and are taking the necessary steps to protect it. As a commenter said in another thread, "We're playing on someone else's playground." We are subject to their rules and terms and if you don't agree with how they handle things, you have two options: petition the staff the change their terms and present a compelling case for doing so, or quit and find another private server that better suits your interests. But don't be surprised if you try the former and they respond "No."
There is no "what the forums are supposed to and not supposed to be." There is only "What the Nostalrius staff wants the forums to be." It's not ambiguous or vague either, as everything is clearly laid out in their
terms of use. I think the staff is doing an excellent job in maintaining a level of quality on the forums and I've been playing almost everyday for nearly a month and a half and plan to continue playing in the foreseeable future, so that invalidates the notion "They are catering to people that will play here for a month then quit, not the people who play all the time and will continue to play here for years."

You can pretty much say and do anything in game, no matter how badly it affects other people's experience. You can run around knifing lowbies inside their own faction's quest hub, you can aoe onto hearth spots, you can say the most vile things imaginable... What's the point of having a friendly forum for a game that's dominated by scum? Any 30 continuous minutes in game I see things that are worse than any of the edited stuff on these forums.
Ganking and griefing aside, a key difference between stuff said in-game versus stuff said on the forums is most in-game comments fall out of the chat window within minutes, if not, seconds, often while players are preoccupied with other activities, and doesn't necessarily reach a large number of people save for maybe 2. Trade chat. All discussion is also limited to those strictly logged in and playing the game.
Whereas on the forums, comments remain in a more permanent fashion and are readily readable by not only people who have created an account here, but all guests as well who actively play the game but don't post on the forums. Not to mention the forums are open to the entire internet and everyone browsing it. Comments can remain up for weeks, turning into months, especially if the thread is active in terms of posts.
Perpetual discussion and thread bumping all contribute to more and more people seeing the comments here which is why it's easier to see evidence of more moderation on the forums than in-game. A good deal of people can't be bothered to take a screenshot, upload it to an image sharing site, and open an in-game ticket with their findings to report an offending player while they're actively playing the game, but someone reading the forums who's not preoccupied with the game and has more time on their hands to thoroughly vet discussions does.
All in all, as GM Same pointed out, both the game and the forums are subject to the same
terms of use. Players can be reported in-game for breaking the terms as well. It's just a lot more complex and disrupting to do so than on the forums which is why people get away with a lot more in-game. That being said, I'm all for more people making use of the /ignore function and saving GMs precious time in dealing with more important matters.
