Dont use addons, dont use AoWoW, read quests, play as a keyboard turner, forget boss mechanics by getting amnesia...

I like the modern feel I get nowdays.
I like using 78645 addons.
I like having modern feel in old-school mmo.
I feel it's the best combination any mmo has. Very few old games are still being updated addon-wise.

I enjoy vanilla wow as mmo. I don't look for "old feeling". I want the modern mmo feeling while playing best tought out mmo game imo. An mmo with huge open world, very few loadings, active world pvp, no hotkey based queued content.
Now I got that game AND I got addons to provide 2015 feeling in amazing 2004 game ;)

Cheers!

I like you. That's exactly my opinion! Best part are the keyboard turners without hotkeys! But honestly everyone was at this level, I didn't even know what WoW is when I started first xD

I love it! I miss a few addons from retail, but doesn't matter I am enjoying it right now and this ganking is hilarious, even being ganked by some scumbags is really oldschool.

I see a priest (lvl 33, me lvl31 Warrior) eating&drinking at 20% life. I decide to let him live.
I start fighting two Yetis in Alterac (near Hillsbrad), lvl33-34, nearly killed them, was at 30% life = Same Priest attacking and killing me. Little scumbag, but that is this "Vanilla-Feeling" xD

A lot of things are unbalanced in this game, but that is even more exicting than having all classes doing everything in WoD (retail)!
Every class in WoD can selfheal, stun, slow, all kinds of cc, dmg, these and that.

In Vanilla you know better what each class is capable of!
Nowadays pvp suck, I am saying that as "more-times-gladiator since BC through Wotlk and finally stopped with PVP in cata..)

Enjoy it or leave it!
I love it! :-D

Playing vanilla wow on a private server these days, even with fresh start, is nothing but absolutely and completely nothing like a retail experience. Even if you played only the later wow versions and you play vanilla first time, due to the things mentioned above, the experience is completely incomparable, its simply a different game.

Anyone else?

looool are you listening to yourself? The things you mention are so beyond human reach, you are seriously mentioning the problem to be history itself.

There are also a ton of players who have never played wow before and jumped into this, and they will most definitely get to experience what vanilla wow is like, and go through many of what we did through our own time.

100% Agree , Privacy servers (as paladin) gives me nothing more than bugged abilities that are so annoying, community today is mostly gear and gold greedy than how it used to be back in retail vanilla (full with adventure and friendship).
What is retail way is that this is nothing more than vanilla , for nostalgic players like me . Thats all.

By the end of retail vanilla, it really wasn't much different than this server. Wowhead was out and had a wealth of information, and Thottbot had been around for awhile (just not as good). There were mods for everything. Everyone knew boss mechanics up until at least the gear check fights in Vael/Princess Huhuran.

For me it is a vanilla experience.

- There are very few resources online for vanilla WoW, just like in 2005
- You have to relearn everything, whether you played retail up to recently or just didn't play WoW at all for 10 years. Class abilities and talents are completely different, professions are different, the interface is completely different. I had no idea what talents to choose, and there are hardly any guides. I still try to shift click items on the auction house.
- Because of the last two points, there is a mystery and exploring element to the world.
- Nobody knows anything about the current patch. Every 30 mins another player or myself asks a question. "How come this long VC quest line gave us a crappy green ring? Isn't it supposed to be blue?" "Can boars get gore yet?" "How come the BFD brain stems quest doesn't start in Auberdine?" Insert any question about hunters and pets.
- Nobody knows how to pvp, and pvping is awkward. Coming from a glad on retail: I have to relearn everything.
- The players are like vanilla players. There are less trolls, less scumbags, no gold spammers. People are friendly and focused on objectives.
- The economy is tight and works very well. Every silver counts.
- Everyone I talk to about the vanilla experience agrees that it is amazing, and basically just as good as when WoW came out.

And most importantly, the nostralius creators did an outstanding job with everything. It is 99% the same as vanilla WoW was.

Yeah, I don't think it's all that different tbh. Instead of Thottbot, you have AOwow. Other then that, players are more progression-minded than before (10 years of themepark MMO's will do that to ya). The amount of players getting to level 60 as quickly as they did/are is mind blowing to me.

All in all though, it's still a absolutely fantastic experience.
I haven't put this much time into an MMO since BC.

This is exactly my feeling. I've been searching for a new MMO to call home for a long time, ever since I quit playing retail WoW in Cata. I've played a lot of stuff since then (Warhammer Online, Rift, SW: Old Republic, Tera, GW2, Archeage, ESO, FFXIV, Wildstar, even tried going back to '07 Runescape). Nothing has quite taken hold of me and made me want to call it home as much as WoW did.

I really, deep down, just wanted a slightly updated Vanilla WoW. Which is where this server comes in. I think I'm using a quest tracker addon and a portrait addon and that's really it and I'm having the most fun I've had in an MMO in a long time.

Either a majority of you in this thread are:

1. Wrong

2. Never actually played Vanilla

Nostalrius is EXACTLY like vanilla. The only difference is the population. As someone who actually played vanilla, the experiences are quite similar. Is it going to be EXACTLY the same? No, but it's pretty damn close to it.

What was it that you didn't like about those MMOs?
