i afk'd in BG's all the time in retail BC and never got a ban or warning or anything like that ONCE.

Ban and Suspension are 2 different things IMO (suspension for afking in BGs), but as long as the suspension is short, lets say a few hours, it's fine.

Players who AFK during BGs do nothing other than bring down their team.

We have had so many bann appeals of exploiters and bots who claim to be innocent...
we will continue to get those because cought exploiters are butthurt.
I do think the gm team is doing their best to adress issues that concern the server.
The reasons for bans aka multibox issue are so akward because people dont realise that its forbidden i guess.
On every other private server u can boost your alts, here u can not.
@Op if u have been banned, or as stated in your first appeal yourfriend has been banned and you are trying to help him out, because for whatever social anxiety he has, he doesnt like to talk to people and lvls only via grinding, because he doesnt like quests either apparently.
Combine that with being new to mmo and movement issues (keyboardturning) and u have yourself a human bot...
Please advise your friend that this is an mmo and that the rest of the playerbase iwould like to let him have part in their social aspect of this game.
Im not judging but this is one fishy story you got.

Gms dont ban based on player reports
Gms do not ban without investigation
And if in doubt gms do get 2nd opinion

Im not gonna have an opinion if someone did or did not break the rules.

Blizzards system with warings and short bans gave room for misstakes, both from players and gamemasters. The goal should not be to ban people, insted it should be to encourage the players to follow the rules. This can be done with communication insted of permanent bans from the server.

I think the difference is, that Blizzard had the resources to give room for mistakes. Had resources to give players a chance to explain themselves, and then explain to them what they did wrong, and how to avoid it. (Or at least what I heard, I actually never had any incident with any GM nor got banned trough my 10 year wow career which is crazy).
So I think on this scale players should be more careful. BUT if there is a slight chance that the player might be innocent, they should have a chance to discuss it in a civilized manner.

I agree. If not dealt with early, exploits can ruin economy and the only solution will be big rollback. Speaking from personal experience of running a private MMO server. The trade-off is certain percentage of innocent players being banned.
