You do not want to split the player base.
Yeah it can be a pain to level, but it's a short term problem. If you open additional servers you then run the risk of having dead servers in the future.
Look at every MMO released past WoW. Launch is very busy, people complain about queues, demand additional servers. Then a few weeks later, people complain about servers being dead and demand merges.
Well, 5k players on the server is very fun, and already has downsides too when it comes to leveling and farming professions.
Keep in mind that retail vanilla servers had an estimated 2k5 population.
If really we are heading toward 10k players, don't you think it would be a good idea to open a 2nd server? If both servers had the same pop or slightly less than Nostalrius during last week, then it would be all fine for social aspects. If one day the population is dropping, which I doubt, then it would still be possible to merge them.
It not like fe**ix servers. Here, they would use the same "code", and same DB, and it would be possible to split / merge servers almost at will. It is even possible to have common BG queues, with some development.
It is possible we only have a temporary peak population, and then we will keep one server. But what if it continues to grow at the same rate for weeks? We better be prepared. If it ends up completely unplayable, or with login queues, then it will also "split" the population as many people would leave, and it would be disastrous too.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3024#p27299He said 5k is the current limit of the server to have 0 lags. Over 5k, we have lags, and at 6k, they clearly are noticeable.
They are working on optimization in order to increase the performance, but will it scale infinitively? Of course not.
Nostalrius has a very good quality, and I believe that as long as crashes are rare, and there is no lag, players will continue to flow in. Or we "refuse" more players (nightmare login queue), or we have to find a scalable solution. A new server is a solution. If you have a better one, please suggest.
