If gankers get too persistant and start camping you, there's a few things you can do.

1. Stop whining on the forums and /spitting at the gankers, that's just going to make them target you more. Making another toon just to whisper the guy with "fuck u u suck and cant even fight fair noob" wont help your case either.

2. Log off and take a break. Even if it's only 15 minutes, there's no rush to level.

3. Ask for help in general. That's the main thing people used to do, if you were getting camped, get a group and fight back. This will most likely result in groups of players from each faction coming to your location just to fight, which is fun.

If you dont find the idea of open world battlegrounds fun, you shouldn't be playing vanilla.

OGTUCKER117 wrote:Then it wouldnt be a pvp server, that would basically make it a PvE server if you could unflag youself from PvP, do you know how much that would suck if you went to attack somebody and then you couldnt because they had some stupid buff? You will be 60 soon enough then you will be same level as other 60's and can even gank lowbies if you want. Kind of like paying your dues ya know? just gotta go with it man

I do not pvp, if I get attacks i just /wave or /dance. At the same time it sucks for me , and other in the same boat, because I just do my quests, grind to get to 60 to raid. I might do some BGs once I get my foot pedals repaired, no left arm, so I can move properly on the battlefield.

If they gave this option a try the player name would not be red as such you would notice at a distance who could be attacked. Stating it would be a PVE server would be false as most people would prefer to pvp, not everyone would want to do such a thing as they like to pvp, the thrill of it. Personally I would love to see them give it a try for a few weeks to see how the player base over all feels about it. You never know, it may not be as bad as you think it would be.

I disagree Mr Gonstackk. If that option were implemented then the server would just be a "normal" server. I can't speak for everybody else but I for one definitely wouldn't play here if that were the case.

Wow, real insightful advice. Thanks captain obvious!

Yeah, I shouldn't be playing the game which had the majority of the servers as PVE during retail (since they were the most popular).

Lets consider that when retail first opened, people thought that there would be a massive penalty for dying (much like other MMOs that they've just moved from), so they thought "Damn, pvp will just make things harder".

By the time people realised "hey, there's no penalty for getting killed by a player", they were already too far along on their toons to think "I'll just start again on a superior realm".

Anybody who ever refers to Vanilla as the golden days will always mention world PvP, that is what most of the community wants. If you want to be able to level on a Vanilla server without having to fight for anything, then a dead realm is what you want.

I don't think it would be as bad as your making it out to be. The way your making it out is no one but a handful of people want full blown pvp all the time where I consider it to be the opposite. As far as a death penalty it was known in alpha that death only resulted that you had to run to your corpse. In retail the memories I had of pvp where barrens and hillsbrad wars and the days/week long AV battles. Most of the good memories where related to raiding, which any mmo I have played has been my major focus.

My favorite memory was during TBC where I applied to a guild that was ahead of the one I was in. They said I needed to switch to BM or I could not join. I did not join but a few weeks later they had an open raid where I joined with my hybrid build and topped damage, lived and did better than their guild hunters. They wanted me to join and I refused stating, You did not want me a few weeks ago with this build, nothing had changed but now you want me.

Most people who went to play World of Warcraft didn't play alpha or beta. They heard about it from their friends while playing other games.

If everybody who played Vanilla played the alpha/beta, Blizzard would've expected way more than 400,000 subscriptions.
________

It is quite as bad as I make it out to be. You people that don't like world pvp just have to wait for some of the hype to die down, then you wont have to worry about getting ganked every 10 minutes. Where as us that actually want PVP would get utterly fucked. A lot of people are here just because the large population makes for good world PVP. Take that away and we've no reason to stay, we might as well just move back to an inferior realm that has world pvp.

Yeah, those "dead realms" that still have more players on them in retail and more total servers of that type (pve). If people really wanted PVP they would have re-rolled a long time ago or transferred.

I think the private vanilla server scene would have been popular a while ago if someone had made a quality PVE server, instead of the dead realms the majority of PVP private servers are now. Its what kept me from trying one.

I always thought the PVE server was a good compromise. You can still play PVP, but without the sociopathic ganking.

I know how frustrating it could be, but i think i prefer a PvP server.

PVE actually encourages "sociopathic ganking". Because you're not flagged for pvp, you pick and choose your own fights. That guy 5 levels lower than you with low health that's tagged for PVP because he buffed an ally? Time to flag PVP, then gank him and afk for 5 minutes. Oh shit, his friend is there that's my level and could defeat me in a fair fight? I'll just walk past and not flag myself.

A lot of people did reroll, and they did transfer. On the EU realms, the only PVE server that had more players than a PVP server was because it was the first suggested realm when you make your character.
_________

If you really want a PVE server you'll have to do it yourself, because all the Vanilla fanbase that make these servers want to relive the days when they had to compete in open world for everything. Look at this server for example. One of the first things people did here was form a massive raid group and invade the opposite factions starting zones, resulting in huge lvl1 battles.
