Re: Noob Memories

I tried to make a PvP video by getting a radio and setting it up next to a giant 1990s video camera on a Tripod and filmed the screen. I also spent 3 months leveling a gnome mage to 22 before I saw someone in a BG say that affliction warlocks were overpowered and required no skill. I was so inspired. Unfortunately I forgot my password (I was 9) and about 3 months later my mom told me she was still paying for it and if I still played it. She called and got my account back and I was so freaking thrilled. I had no idea what affliction was but i made a warlock and leveled him to 29 before i saw that druids could run really fast at level 30, so I made a druid and leveled him to 22, realized I could get a felhunter at 30 on my warlock and decided I would have to choose, decided warlock because it was closer to 30. Then I leveled him up realizing when I got to 60 I had never played affliction and that was the entire reason I became a warlock lol. I also saw a twink and got inspired and got a cruel barb on my mage, at level 20, went into arathi basin and said "its ok im a twink"

Friend #2 doesn't realize, gets frustrated and goes "how do i wave my dick around??? /dick doesn't work for me wtfff" in the general chat...

So yeah, it took me 25 days /played to level my first character from 1-70. Also, I REALLY wanted to get into Hyjal for some reason. I was obsessed with it. I kept searching for guides on how to do it but most of them were obsolete or maybe even fake, who knows..Those cliffs at Winterspring know what's up. Long story short, I never managed to get there until Cata ^^.

I remember playing on a private Russian server called "Rivera" back in 2007. There were no separated ID lockouts, so you could enter Naxx with your raid just to find out there are already several other raids inside waiting to kill the boss (every single boss had a ~30 minute respawn time iirc). Just imagine Kel'Thuzad's room with 200+ players waiting for him. :D

I rolled a dwarf hunter back in 2005 april. I didn't really understand or speak english at all so I think I spent my first 2 months running around killing stuff and randomly maybe getting quests done. Had something like 24 days played when I hit 60.

Oh the days, the nostalgia

I remember thinking that eventually Blizzard would release an item-set that were named after some of the areas in the world. The belt of this set would be "The Green Belt" from Wetlands and the cloak was "Cape of Stranglethorn" etc. I felt like a genius for 'predicting' this and was sure it would happen.

A the very beginning of vanilla when I tried the game the first time on a human warrior, I remember finding a green item. I asked my brother what the "equpping this item will make it soulbound" meant. He explained that if I equipped it, I wouldn't be able to sell it to other players in a trade or on the auction house. I thought the auction house had something to do with orcs because of the 'auc' sound in auction. I was like 11 and wasn't a native english speaker lol.

My older brothers friend played a human paladin and he used Green Iron Helm from like 30-40. I remember watching my brother play before I got into the game myself and seeing his friend with this awesome looking viking-horned helm was very memorable. I remember that I just HAD to get that helm on my warrior when I started playing. Oh and that sweet +2 beastslaying too for that beautiful glow.

I remember seeing the mysterious portal in Duskwood that was guarded by a small drake (before the twilight dragon patch). I always thought that I would get to the Emerald Dream if I managed to get past the Drake (i was level 20 at the time). So one time I just rushed past it and got to the portal. You can imagine the disappointment.

There were those zones on the world map that just sounded scary or mysterious when you were low level. I went to Western Plaguelands at 48 because those skeletons at Uthers Graveyard would be 'yellow' for me, at least the ones that were lvl 50. Oh man, the bragging when I whispered to my friends to check their friends list and see what zone I was in! (Honorable mentions were definitely Un'goro Crater, Silithus (just such a strange name for zone isolated from the rest of the world - what could that zone possibly be inhabited by?), Burning Steppes.

Oh and it was definitely a milestone when you could see the level of the Drake fighting the Dwarves. It was that strange scene you could only see for a couple of seconds when you were flying from IF to SW or vice versa. Does anyone remember this little place? I hope Nostalrius have included this little gem!

I also would wear leather armour so I could be more agile ( I use to play a lot of morrowind). I would also run around IF in my underwear asking people for gold and saying some one hacked my account and that they took everything. I would also sit in menithil harbour waiting for low noobie night elfs to come off the boat I would offer to show them the way to iron forge for 15 silver once they gave me the money we would walk till that fork in the road in the wetlands I would then tell them I can't go any farther because I am hated by the dwarves and all that he has to do is follow the path going to arathi highlands and that IF was the place with the dwarves just before arathi highlands (dun moder). You would be surprised by how many people fell for that.

Lol, was this Dragonblight EU by any chance?
