If the win ratio is roughly 50/50 despite the backdoor, then I'd say it's part of the overall balance and without it we'd be seeing a large shift toward Ally victories. Stop turtling at the bridge, and we can all get through games in a reasonable amount of time. The only reason anyone started going backdoor is because of the turtling. Allies can put 5-10 mages/hunters at the bridge and hold off the entire horde offensive while the rest of their raid easily storms the Horde base, even if we have 10 defending. It will fall. Also, as others have said, it's not difficult to defend the backdoor.
As Horde, once we are inside the Ally base we have to kill pretty much every NPC over, and over, and over, and over, and over. Does this happen at the Horde base? Answer honestly.
