As for BoE, I have already explained how that works.
But for BoP the value of one item might and often is much greater than the value of the vendoring/disenchanting price. For example a Turban's value cannot be quantified in gold for spellcasters, because you cannot acquire that item any other way than by winning a roll. Ofcourse you can say, that the people not needing on such an item are losing gold, but the value is what matters here. As for BoE items acquirable on AH, both parties lose/gain the same amount of gold, as for BoP items on person gains 1-10g and the other loses probably hundreds/thousands gold, by having to do the instance over and over again, in which time he could have farmed consumables, gold, other items. I don't know why this is so difficult to understand for you people, but sometimes you gotta let go and just admit that you are wrong.
Let me give you an example from real life. Let's say you have a girlfriend you want to propose to. One day you walk on a sidewalk and spot a diamond ring lying on the ground, but one other person spots it too. You both rush to it and grab it at the same time. Does the fact, that you want to propose to your girlfriend gives you any more right to the ring than the other guy, just because he doesn't have a girlfriend and just wants to sell it? If your answer is yes, I'd advise you to seek a help from a proffessional counselor.
Have a nice weekend.
The problem with your argument is that 1-10g is worth same to everyone, which is false. One individual may value his 5g from item more than an item, and since its subjective it cannot be defined in raw value.
You can always pay actual money to have someone boost you through instance and have it reserved... right?
And as for your example:
1st: We did not ''group'' up with this random dude to go searching for loot on the ground so thats first inconsistency
If we would it would be only fair so that the one for MS (wedding) gets the ring first and OS (potential wedding) gets the ring second. But as we all know girlfriends are not soulbound as they may come and go I would reconsider using the ring at all
2nd the problem of your logic is you are trying to collectively use excuse of user time to get something gold vs repeating of instance farming for your loot. The other user has to repeatedly do stuff to earn gold also you know. And if he loses 10 min for 5g who are you to call him a ninja if before you defended the guy needing for gold.... The random guy in party is nothing to him, just a stranger, but 5g is his progression loot to buy from AH, cos some douche needed on Furors... his hours to get the item mean nothing to him, just his 5g
Hence 5g has higher value than strangers time right? To me it sure does. To me i lose X minutes of my time if i pass on any BOP of certain value... thats the economic way you are proposing for BOEs I just extended it overall...
Time is money my friend.
So tell me: What is worth more, if someone unknown not benefiting anything to your progression gets Turban in UBRS or if you get 5g and can buy Furors 5min sooner? If you say the unknown stranger not benefiting your progressiong then you know what, you are lying. The point is, everything is clearly subjective, especially the value of either BOE or BOP items. And you cannot say, that value is higher on one side, since you cannot objectively define such value except with gold, but once gold is taken in account as you did on BOEs you always have one getting X gold and another losing X gold, regardless of BOE/BOP debate. For Warrior turban is worth 5g and thats it, but for someone else its worth 100g for example....
This is why everytime MS>OS is warranted.... not to mention some classes 300g = X hours some others 300g = XY hours.... so again different value in terms of time.
