It entirely depends on content and gear. Different classes peak at different content and/or with different gear in comparison to other classes. There are four classs, all of which are #1 depending on the factors mentioned: rogue, warrior, mage warlock.
Although they scale greatly, rogues peak in MC and BWL in comparison to the other classes. After gearing up in naxx gear, you'll see your best fury warriors edge out the rogues pretty much everywhere. I say 'best' because some players aren't just upto the task of managing the volatility of rage at higher gear levels. Throughout a full server "cycle" from launch to endgame content, rogue has the smoothest journey of the two, with warrior having the higher potential.
You're gonna see alot of discrepency amongst mages and warlocks (internally too), as consumables and planning efficient target switching play such a big role. I'd say a tryhard mage will be further ahead of his fellow mages, than a tryhard warlock will be ahead of his fellow classmates. This due to potions and runes simply doing more for mages, aswell as several ways of making sure rolling ignites end up in your alley. In the fire spec content (aq40 and naxx) you'll usually see warlocks averaging slightly more than mages, but the most clever ignite thieves consistently edge out warlocks.
I'd recommend mage or warrior for the truly tryhard dpser as there's much more room to edge out your fellow class mates, which is essentially what matters to impress. Warlock is the lowest maintenance high dps class, as you can get away with skipping mana pots and runes without getting flamed. Do that as a mage, and you'll get thrashed.
I suggest you look at other factors to make a decision. I heavily dislike warlock pvp, and rogue isn't my alley either. Always prefered teamfigth pvpers, so warrior and mage for me there. As a warrior, you have certain responsibilities that you can't escape, steer clear if this is a problem for you. A greedy fury warrior unwilling to respec can be a huge detriment to a guild. Mages are awesome for pretty much everything in the game, from pve to pvp, farming and mobility.
