Hello, I'm new to private servers. Are private servers against the Blizzard ToS? I don't want to get my retail account banned if they tracked me from playing this server.

In short, no. They have no interest in shutting down these private servers. They aren't really threatening the millions of people who like to play EZ mode retail a pay to play for new upcoming content. They should have no idea what you are doing on your own time nor should they care. Private servers have been around for MMORPGs before WoW existed. There hasn't been any problems for over a decade.

Yes, they are against the Blizzard Terms of Service. Do we care? Obviously not.

Will you get banned on retail? It is possible but very rare. The only way Blizzard would know is if you did something retarded like keeping both retail and private server WoW in the same folder or openly advertising a private server on their forums or in game.

Is there a post on the forums showing how to have different folders from retail and private server?

well I hope you are also aware you need a different version of the game to play.

when the old version is installed just make sure it is not in the same folder as your original WOW.
you can have multiple installations beside eachother.

this is not standard told to people, since there are not too many people running retail and private besides eachother.

They have the capability see see what else is running on your computer while you have retail WoW running. I don't know if they can see what other connections you might have, I wouldnt think that's too much of a stretch at that point, but I'm not that intimately familiar with the Blizzard ToU (which is always changing.)
Even if they found out which account you're using, they probably wouldn't ban you - after all, they still want your $15/month above all else.

^This right here. It's why Blizzard is hesitant to ban bots, they pay subscriptions and allow them to show subscription numbers being higher than the actual number of paying players and well, they'd be throwing away free money at that point.

Please do not post your question in three different sub-forums at the same time as that is considered spam.
