Tailoring. Worth it?

by Lakweeta » Mon May 25, 2015 9:11 am

I'm really thinking about taking up Tailoring. I was going to do Skinning/Herbing, but just looking at Tailoring. For example, Robe of Power. Available at level 33 and completely beats Doan's Robes.

I guess I'm just looking for some input, how have your tradeskill profs been leveling them at lower levels? :]

I've been doing Tailoring/Enchanting as I level on my mage, and I have been consistently able to make gear for a higher level than my character is, that is to say my Tailoring is a higher level than my character. However on my Paladin, I found it extremely difficult to keep my Herbalism/Alchemy up, so I waited til I got my mount at 40 to work on those. Anything that is dependent on mining/herbalism while leveling is going to be a massive pain and is probably worth it to wait until you get a mount to work on them. Skinning/Leatherworking and Tailoring/Enchanting are fairly easy to do while leveling, and is recommended to do while leveling. Enchanting and Tailoring become a massive pain to start leveling at higher levels since you will have to pay for materials or will have to grind for them.

Pve. c:

Thanks for that post Dreary! I've always stayed away from Enchanting just because all I've heard was "Enchanting is so expensive to level" and with two tradeskill profs and not a gathering one, I fear I won't have any money :/.. But what you're saying makes me want to at least give it a go! :D

I leveled fishing on my first toon and tailor/ench on second. The first toon keeps the second one pretty well stocked with cloth from fishing and random cloth/gear to D/E from throughout the world. Has made leveling tailor/ench super easy so far.

First toon the traditional: alch/herb

If you have access to a source of cloth, then Tailoring is a good choice. Many of the things you craft can be DE'd or sold on the AH. Might find something useful to wear too, especially if you're a cloth-wearer already.
