Funding & consistency Nostalrius?

Dear nostalgists

Where does the budget for the infrastructure come from (without donations / payment model)? Is anything known about the team behind it or if there is enough money to keep up with the high demand?

I’ve not seen an “about” section covering financial aspects, but maybe I’ve just missed it.

I’m tempted to start a character on the server and invest some time, but I'm worried about the consistency / life span of the Nostalrius project. The forums do indicate that we might hug it to death with further growth...

Don't know much about the team but they did call out for donations to be able to upgrade the hardware a few weeks after launch. I expect they'll do it again should the need arise.

I'd be happy to donate for upkeep.

edit: And here you can: https://en.nostalrius.org/paypal.html
The checkbox btw. makes your donation a monthly standing order, so you probably don't want to check it. ;)

This, with the amount of players we have if we all pitched in a dollar these guys/girls would have 8k+ to upgrade and maintain this great environment.

well, there is a donation link.
it took me some time to find since it is not really widely promoted...

the intention of this server is to keep it without any form of pay2win, thus there is no clear donation program available.

I love the no pay 2 win aspect, imo it's one of the reasons this server is doing so well. I wouldn't mind though if I could drop 20 bucks to change my race. (Not faction change or anything like that...) I know it isn't blizzlike for vanilla, but it also isn't game breaking, and could be a way to get alittle more revenue and provide a service for people like myself. (Wish I was a human instead of a Nelf haha, but I'm halfway to Max lvl already... :P)

I was actually curious about this as well and so far I will say my experience has been great I am only level 11 but I am still working my way up the levels, just hope all the talk about ganking and such is not true once you hit Redridge or Duskwood. But other than all that if this works out well for me I would more than support with donations to help improve the server etc, etc...

Keep the hard work up you guys are doing amazing.

P.S I also gotta look at the BT system you guys have I need to submit 2 bugs I have found since I started which has only been two days now officially.

A very valid question. I would personally be concerned and not just about the survival of the server long term - but also what we are going to get "slapped" with later on. Realistically speaking an undertaking as huge as this will cost money and manpower isn't free either. Would be nice to get some clarification on this.

Thanks a lot for your comments, I'm glad that there is a donation model.

The project does appear less shady with some transparency on the financing and the developers always have the option to ask for more money if need be. I don't mind donating to someting like this, as long as the ownership is open about it and showing good intensions.

Fingers crossed for a bright future... and hopefully a server upgrade (played my first hours yesterday evening CET and the performance was not great...)
