I am rly hyped to Wow Vanilla but the biggest part for me is Server population ... how big were Servers in 2005 2006 or maybe today and how possible is it to reach this goal ? does there exist any numbers ? i dont want to play on a server where i have to search 1 week to get a raid or smth ;/

Well I can`t remember the amount of realms, but in first 10-15 weeks they reach 1m - 1.5m accounts.
Lets say Eu had 500.000 users and 30 servers, that make 16666/server and lets say only 30% was online avg/hour is mean 5000.

So in this case 5000=full / 3500=high / 2000=med / 500=low

After altmost 1 year since release they had 5m accounts but in the time more servers too,so basic the cap per realm remain the same, also more acounts but more inactive players too :) my personal opinion is if this server will have 2000 players and 25% active all the time is mean 500 so..yes u will have a low server pop like a retail server was back then.

I like your calculation but I think there will be more players online at the same time. Also when the hype is over. But we will see

One hour after the possibility of creating accounts, there were 1000 made. I guess that there's not 1000 unique accounts though.

But to answer your 'concern' you won't be looking for a week just to get a raid. I'm fairly certain that there will be enough players to make the world feel living. I don't think it is possible to reach the time when you really had full retail servers with queues to login, like some major servers had. However, if we take a look at ED - I don't know the exact population of that server (different sources say different things, all between 700 during weekday peaks and 2000 during weekend peaks) but in the first 18 or so months (didn't play longer than that) it actually felt alive with people. And I would be slightly baffled if this server didn't reach the same population or very close to it anyway, with the 1k (most likely a few more now) accounts created. So I wouldn't really worry about the server population or the possibility of finding groups.

Population will be fine, the problem will be that everybody is a 10 year WoW expert now, and will know the tricks, the best spots, how to raid MC and BWL etc, nothing is new, its just a race. This can cause facerolled content and turn 1-60 into a server first race instead of enjoying the nostalgia and the game.

Even in vanilla it was a 1-60 race, some people just play for competition :)

Hopefully there will be plenty of people

50% is being optimistic.

I am toying with the idea of streaming my levelling experience and making a guide, for a few classes at least. I revel in levelling, it's basically what I enjoy the most. Admittedly, the end-product would be hefty, but still I feel like it might be a good idea for those most dispirited by the massive amount of time levelling takes.
