Bot Reporting

x1 vanilla is going to attract the botters. In my experience the best detection comes from the players themselves, ie stumbling on that lonely rogue grinding wolves in some forgotten corner of Feralas - he doesn't react, eats at precisely half health, jumps once, and repeats the same pattern over and over.

Are we going to use the ticketing system to report suspicious players? Or will videos be required? Will there be a reporting section for hackers on the forums?

Whenever you are stalking bots, don't whisper them or go too close to them.
Nearly all popular botting programs have features that either send alarms to the botter or just do alt+f4 if someone whispers them or comes too close to the bot. Or if you are gonna do that, do it after you have stalked them and studied their behavior.

I guess best thing to be sure that bots are caught, is to record some evidence of their weird farming habits, upload it to youtube and send the link to a GM. If you just report it, it might take hours before any GM actually reads your report, and at that point the botter might already be offline.

I have done some botting of my own in the past. Can't say i am too proud of it, but hey. At least it gave me plenty of knowledge about how bunch of premium botting softwares operate and what is the general culture among the botting community. Nowdays i just report botters.

Another thing is that not many botters actually leave their bot to just run unattended while the "player" sleeps or something. By now every botter already knows that this is basically suicidal. So most common way to bot is to have two monitors, WoW running on another with a bot, while you do some other stuff on the second monitor. Especially farming bots, because using them don't require you to use a mouse. They will work just fine even if you are doing something else with it. With fishing bots this isn't possible, because you need the mouse, and there aren't that reliable mouse duplication softwares available for windows. So with fishing bots you can nearly always be sure, that there's no one at the PC.

So be prepared of the bots being really skittish and flee the second there is any suspicion that they have been exposed.

The question is, can you gank a bot, or will he instant alt+f4 ? Even if you're stealth or shit, anyway he can spot you?

You can gank bots, if the server itself isn't shitty and has the Blizzard's 20 second or something timer, which keeps the player in the world, even if the WoW.exe has been shut down. So you can gank them if this is the case. Bots can run back, though. Using the same technology they use to patrol grinding areas. Meaning some predetermined route which they always take if they die, from spirit healer to the grinding spot.
