I understand that's how a PvP server is but I was looking forward to making both a Horde and Alliance character before Nost was released. Is there any chance we'll be able to do this?

Make a 2nd account. They're free.

Cross realming cheapens the PvP community, there is a reason lots of people were banned on DAoC for doing it, and there was 3 factions there. Although I don't know how good the world PvP "scene" will be here.

You have to make another account for the second faction. So long as you do not farm yourself for honor, this is not a problem.
