Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

Hey guys,

I'm about to hit 40 on my first character and I'm lacking a little bit in the gold department.. Does anyone have any areas where I can grind for some decent gold/hour? I'm playing a 39 shadow priest right now, extremely close to hitting level 40.

I am currently killing basilisks in 1k needles.

I got my mount at 40 by farming Elemental Fire in Arathi Highlands.

Expect competition though, sometimes it just wasn't possible to farm at all (ganking, 60s farming and such)!

If you want gank-free farming, kill the jaguars all over the western side of Swamp of Sorrows. They very commonly drop grey items that vendor for 8 silver each. It's not a whole lot, but in an hour you can make 6-8 gold just killing these things and vendoring greys.

There's almost nobody in that zone, so there's very little ganking.

I used this spot to grind gold for my mount on Shadow Priest as well, took me maybe 5-6 hours of farming time to grind up ~50g, got the other 40g from selling greens and blues that dropped.

Depending on your gear, you can prolly solo Deadmines or WC @ that point, so you can either sell boosts or collect and vendor all the stuff that drops there, which will lead to some 0 competition goldfarm. Other than that, farm herbs, fish and stuff like that and you will prolly get what you want.

Fishing is pretty huge. Blackmouths and Stonescales sell for a pretty decent amount since they're good for leveling alch, and there are probably a couple other fish I'm forgetting.

Back when I was farming for my mount in vanilla, Basilisks in 1k needles were the single best mob for gold farming. You might be able to make more doing mining and herbalism, but unless they changed something you are already grinding the best mobs. I believe that I tried solo Deadmines and just didn't find the gold to be comparable. Grinding the basilisks may feel kind of slow since you don't get the gold until you go and dump all your greys into a vendor, but it's definitely good g/h.

Deadmines solo runs are pretty much only viable as a paladin or mage, from what I remember. Otherwise they're way too slow because you have no aoe.

I think I farmed some relatively high (10s ea) grays in... north Thousand Needles? I think off of those scorpids that drop Salty Scorpid Venom.

If ya dont mind waiting until 40, grind the wastewater guys, they will drop ridiculous amount of stuff, including patterns (that you vendor for 10-15 silver) and plenty of pouches that you can turn in for water/food/pots.
