LazyPig, Infinite Scrolling, tradeDispenser, and more...

So while I could have asked this question to a GM in a private message, it is pretty hit or miss on if I will get a response.

I made an in game ticket explicitly asking about whether the functionality of Lazy Pig allowing you to auto resurrect, auto accept BG queues, auto accept group invites, etc was allowed.

I also asked about a new mouse I recently bought with an "infinite scrolling wheel", if I were to bind a spell to this wheel I can input over 100 commands a second and the wheel will continue to scroll for up to 20-30 seconds if I were to spin it hard enough. I again asked if this was allowed.

This is the response I received in game.

I use tradedispenser, and I remember people using it in vanilla, and using your mouse to cast a spell is valid.

Why do people try so hard to avoid actually playing this game?

I'm thinking he may not have properly understood my questions since he didn't mention LazyPig or my mouse in the response. He also could have just given a canned response not realizing the implications of it.

Dosen´t matter if he didin´t understand your question when he replys with ALL automation will not be alowed. That includes 90% of all addons. GMs are the face of the Nostalrius staff. They cant say one thing on forums then say another ingame. I´m refering to vipers reply in an other thread that tradedispander wont cuz a ban but this gm says ALL automation are not alowed so tradedispander is ban worthy sins it auto trade and accepts trade.

Using an add on that assists in a normal game way is fine, such as an addon that copies the item name when it is shift-click. Or perhaps clicking an item to trade it rather than drag and drop. Or using decursive to target for you. All these instances are accepted me fair to use. Using 3rd party software or knowingly exploiting to gain unfair advantage will bring judgement.

This ban was applied because the player used 3rd party software to gain unfair advantage. That is what was meant by automation. The staff on Nostalrius will only ban people who knowingly break and continue to break the rules. If you have questions, you can ask the GMs. Hopefully this clears up any remaining confusion.

Answer is quite vague and can be misinterpreted, but generally it's the same rules as blizzard has - any automation that addons provide is fine (since they can only call non-protected functions).

Any external automation is not fine, for example setting up 3rd party software that sends keypress automatically, because they can call protected functions (like spellcasts, movement, etc). Same goes for hardware features, if they can be used to send keypress events indefinitely without user interaction.

20 seconds of wheel spinning and sending keypresses is whatever, it's not like anyone detect it from server side and it ultimately doesn't matter. These rules exist to prevent people from using protected wow api functions without any user interaction which is key part of botting.

I've been on here long enough to "understand" what the overall opinion of the moderators/admins/game masters are, however the response I received from this particular GM (I do not know who) is a bit concerning.

Concerning if it is true because this opens up a lot of issues with addons that Blizzard and other private servers never cared about, and if said in error, then it brings up the issue of communication that the staff needs to have with the players.
