So... is Alterac Valley ever played at its fullest?

by Dr. Doom » Sun Nov 01, 2015 11:40 pm

Just finished my first AV in Nostalrius. It was maybe the biggest reason why I joined the server, and was in awe after learning how the devs were so dedicated in trying to restore it to the best of their ability to its 1.5 glorious initial set-up.

My faction won the match, yet I hadn't felt so gutted since I began playing. Nobody has any interest in doing anything. I volunteered to gather supplies from Irondeep Mine if someone would come with me to help capture, only 1 rogue came so we couldn't do it. I also asked if someone would like to get the banner for Proving Grounds and retrieving the trinket. Another rogue came, but facing level 61 elite yetis isn't an easy feat.

It felt like retail without reinforcements. There was even the randomer complaining about how "turtle suk mang", even if the match was over before the first hour, and a hysteric person yelling about how we all don't zerg drek'thar.

I have to ask, is this because Alterac Valley is in its weekend and people want to maximise gains, and is old AV actually played the rest of the time, or is it actually impossible at all to play the best part of World of Warcraft, regardless of day, because the people playing it are simply uncapable of appreciating it, in spite of the monumental dev work?

A little bit of everything. it was played to its full extent for some time(a week or so after release when land mines were introduced). people did all that mine RP crap sidequests and shit but now everyone has seen and done everything there is to do on av and just want to get the av grind out of the way as fast as possible

When they reach exalted 1000/1000 (and I suppose it's not a very long way to go since I made about 1.5k rep in a single match), what do people want afterwards? Stop queue?

your playing it during an AV weekend.
on non AV weekends games go on forever
Time and space, it's a crossroad through a gate, where do you go?

People are impatient and want to end it as fast as possible. Despite how stupid it is to take a lose over a win, they still prefer it because they don't actually want to work for anything. They'd rather lose quickly than work for something, since losing grants welfare points. Basically, people want as much honor as fast as possible for as little effort as possible; AV was not designed for this. And therein lies a flaw. It should have been designed to reward more for objectives and mob kills; not just a big bounty at the end. When everyone wants to skip objectives, that's not a good sign.

Nope, horde just cheat and exploit the map...it's the only way they know how to win

This rendition of AV is fun once or twice, then it's torture.
