I am looking for an item, maybe in Engineering that you can use and mobs will attack it. Sort of like a distraction.

For example if i wanted to mine some Ore i could use it and distract a mob next to it?

I don't think the engineering dummy was added until TBC; not sure.

The engineering dummy does exist in vanilla (or it should); one of the centaur clans in Desolace has a quest to bring one to the chief.

Also -- when the target dummy explodes, there's a small chance it will drop a [Fused Wiring]. I vaguely recall making them for that purpose so I could make Repair Bots for Nefarian.

There are 3 levels of Target Dummies in pre-TBC World of Warcraft, ask an engineer if they have one, and if not they may have been added in a later patch.

Yep, but it was broken at Nost months ago, did they fix it?
Also i've heard some reports that target dummy does not taunt (months ago as well, might be fixed now)

You can't control it (it is on aggro stance by default so be careful)
It have ~1500 hp, hitting with orange attacks for 50-70 if i remember correctly
You can heal it

There's 3 Engineering made target dummies in Classic. You could have found this out quite easily if you bothered to look. Search box: "target dummy"

The problem is that, last I checked, they don't work on Nost. When I last used them, they would produce threat to any mobs, and never became a lootable corpse. Even if you walk up to a mob you did nothing against and drop the dummy, the mob just ignores it and goes for you. No threat, no return loot, no point. If you're hoping to get fused wirings, stick to making Goblin Rocket Boots, because these work as originally intended. When they expode they return loot, and I've gotten a number of wires from it. The looted wire actually profits you through the explosion, but rarely occurs.
