Please fix mob view distance. Game is almost unplayable.

I'd rather deal with lag. Leveling is not fun when you can't see mobs and you die. Sometimes I am now running around in quest area, will run into multiple mobs and die because I can't see due to the view distance issue.

increasing viewing distance has a HUGE impact on server performance, think of it like this:
One player sees an other and vice versa --> server receives data from and sends data to two clients

what happens if 100 players see each other?
each player information is sent to the 100 other players that see him
--> 100*100 = 10000 packets sent for a single action of each player
now each player is performing multiple actions per second... and so on

I guess you see where this is going

server lag exponentially increases the higher the viewing distance is

It's dynamic. There was over 10k online at one point today. You get the picture.

What do you expect... play on a less populated server if it's "unnplayable".

That draw distance reduction in cities dramatically reduces the load on the server I get. That is where you have 100 people watching 100 people etc.

Out in the woods, we don't get such dramatic numbers so the gain is smaller and the negative impact is far greater. Kinda sad if the draw distance has to be uniform over the entire map, because it truly sucks when mobs are drawn after you aggro them.

I'm quite sure it should be possible to change viewing distance according to grids, maybe even zones

the effect in cities isn't that big because most players just sit around doing nothing --> barely any info is sent

I would not rather deal with lag. Like people said earlier, this is dynamic and only happens when a bunch of people are on a map at once. If they increased the distance there would be server issues, lag issues, and half the people couldn't run the game. This is something we have to deal with because we joined a really high pop server. Its one of the drawbacks, but the pros of this population outweigh the cons. Until they find a way to comfortably host 8-10k people without lag and engine issues we have to deal with this. If it bothers you that much the PvE server doesnt have the same issue.
