Hey guys, just discovered this server. A friend of mine saw me playing and also wanted in, so we tried to start a new char at the same time. But I'm not quite sure which classes we could use. I mean we had the idea to play two rogues, go in, kill something and then get out, but I'm like ehhh dunno. Always heard how broken (as in not working as intended) vanish was in Vanilla (and several other expansions), and I think they don't even get cloak?

I was thinking maybe a feral druid (nelf for the racial) and a dwarf rogue (racial cleaning dots). I know that in WoD you can ignore dots and just vanish, between qol buffs and engineering stuff, but what about Vanilla? That's why I was thinking about stoneform.

To be able to choose your fights, and if things start to get messy, to be able to run away. Which two classes and races would be best?

You don't got no Cloak of Shadows and you don't got anything to remove dots, if you vanish while dotted it will bring you back out. Most rogues on alliance play humans simply because of perception and +sword skill racial. There is ALOT of rogues on both sides so perception is used quite often to get that opener in pvp.

Stealth while leveling sucks. Stealth is pretty terrible unless you spec in the sub-tree, but while leveling you don't do that.

First off, welcome to the server. Choosing a class is the toughest but biggest decision you will make. Make something you will enjoy. The last thing you want to do is to create a character, get to level 40, and hate him/her. If you are wanting a "group-friendly" duo, making a tank/healer combo would be without a doubt the best way to go. You would never have to wait for dungeon groups and you would be in charge of what DPS classes you get in group. Again, make what you think you will like and best of luck.

Thanks for you answers! We started two rogues and quickly realized it was kinda tough lol. We have no vanilla experience, since we started in WoLTK with a priest and a druid. I think it kinda worked out because even though we had no idea wtf we were doing, he dropped some heals here and there and I just went bear if thinks got rough.

So my friend picked up a priest again and I went warrior, but man I hope it gets better because I get the feeling I'm just AA'ing things to death and he does all the damage. We went to the org dungeon just to see if we could handle a few monsters but they wrecked us.

I never had any trouble casual-tanking things with my bear in woltk, barely respeccing at all. But I get the feeling it's not the same with the warrior.

Then came the hunter! Quite nice to have to kite things for a change, although my latency (250-350) keeps me in a range-limbo where things are not where they seem to be. Not too troublesome in PvE, but I do wonder how it will work in PvP.

Later I created a mage. It was good, but man they eat mana like there is no tomorrow lol. Things die so fast it's OK though. I was about to create a warlock, but then the flashbacks came. Fuck rogues man, they gave me a PTSD of sorts.

So yeah, I have trouble picking up a class  I just don't want to end up being lvl 60 and being rejected because "lol feral druid go heals" or something like that. Not saying that's what happens, but I remember people saying that about vanilla wow and the... "lesser classes".

TL;DR: Friend went priest, can't decide between warr, druid, hunter, mage. Don't mind tanking, dislike healing. Likes money, dislikes wasting it. Like PvP-PvE. Love kiting but 250-350 latency yay.

Hey there and welcome to Nost!

And especially welcometo Vanilla ;)

Yes, there were a lot of issues with some specs of some classes. Druid's most viable Spec was resto, maybe there is one Feral and one Boomkin in Raid just because of the aura.
Warriors where the best tanks but lack aoe tanking.

All in all you just have to plan your fights in vanilla, even while simply questing in low-level areas. That's how vanilla worked back then and still works today.
You want Maximum DPS either range or melee then stay rogue or mage.
If you want a class, where every Spec is viable and different roll a warrior -> Prot is best Tank, Arms is really enjoyable PvP and Fury is good for raiding. But still, to lvl a warrior can be quite awfull till 40, since they lack some really good spells.

Hunter, hm... like always there is already a shitload of hunters and even if it's the easiest class to lvl and farm you will have some struggles to find a raidparty.

At least it's your decision what you like the most

good luck Buddy!

That's pretty smart to make many classes to see which you like most. Most people will only want warriors to tank endgame. If you roll druid or shaman, you will more than likely be healing. Rogues and hunters are both a dime a dozen. Warriors are perhaps the toughest and most boring to level, but the reward of doing dungeons whenever you want without wait, is very nice. The server had 9800 people online, Sunday, at 6 PM server time. Grabbing groups for quests isn't hard, but as DPS, you are fighting the rest of the server in doing so. Whatever class you end up rolling, it will be a grind. Play something you enjoy and that you think you will enjoy endgame. If you will be leveling with your friend, it will be easier to grab groups with having him as a healer, to get the group started, no matter what class you roll. Good luck and I'll see you in the contested.
