There's never too many tanks -- unless you expected to be recruited by a "serious" raiding guild and showered with epics just because you hit 60 and can tank.

You will find dungeons groups in a heartbeat. However, if you're expecting to join a guild thats cleared all content you won't. All guilds with all content on farm has their tanks already and tanks are fiercely loyal (Can't lose their queue spot in Thunderfury drops). So you will have to farm dungeons 5-mans until you basically reach pre-raid BiS to hit Defcap & Enchant all that gear. After that you can start a guild search, probably something one that haven't started BWL yet because that lacks man-power.

Being a really good tank gets you invited to a bigger guild quite quickly, so many bad tanks in most guilds.

Lol, the responses in this thread are gold. Bad responses aside, If you are pre-40 and don't plan on making Nostalrius your entire life for the next 6 months-year in hopes of being "that sick dps/prot warrior", I'd re-roll something like Paladin/Shaman/Druid for more utility/fun. I won't say that warrior isn't fun in general, as it's my bread and butter, but I'll say that it's much different being a warrior here than it is on any other retail or private server.

Personally, one of the main reasons why I didn't have a fun time playing warrior here was that you have to work twice as hard as other classes due to the fact that you only need a few tanks per raid. This also does make the few good tanks fiercely loyal to their guilds as one poster said, and the guild ends up gravitating around them (for better or for worse). Even then as a tank, you deal with so many autistic players that DPS and think they deserve the same amount of whatever it is because "they know their rotation, dog". Never mind the fact that they attack the wrong mob or go AFK every 15 minutes mid-pull/boss/raid.

Yes, there is "too many tanks". Just because you spend 30 minutes for a tank for a 5 man doesn't fucking mean there aren't enough tanks, it simply means nobody wants to help morons who pull wrong do DM north. I wouldn't even go in half the instances with PUGs because tanking became an intense task of watching who was attacking what. If you actually looked at guilds (and told dps warriors to gear for tanking), you'd see there are PLENTY of warriors on this server. It's by far the most played class, it's just that a ton of people quit before 60 because it's definitely one of the harder classes to level.

P.S. To all those saying "LOL BAD JUST WORK HARDER", maybe you should roll a warrior from scratch and get it geared in pre-BIS to show us. I'd love to laugh at how long it takes you to get to that level of insane pvp/prot warrior that you and every fucking person mentions in these warrior threads. I watch my old guild's tanks under that tracking site for gear/raids, and the tank I was behind for loot (4 tanks total) has maybe 4-5 pieces of shitty tier one/ terrible tanking drops (coughshittyleggings) after 3 months of runs. The only way I could even say that's worthwhile is if you're playing for serious long-term value and you have internet in Europe (latency + melee = LOL BRO).

First off only the MT in certain guilds is stacked with epics for progression purposes. Getting that position in a guild like that requires you to be there from day one not to mention you won't stand a chance without being an expert on your class and nearly perfect attendance. For the OTs, they are generally geared the same speed as other classes (with the exception of a few reserves like the nef head).
Second there are too many tanks in the guild raiding pool since you only need a few for raids. The tank to group ratio in 5 mans is 1 to 5, while the average 40 man tank to group ratio is 1 to 10. Also tanks don't want to deal with dum dums in pugs when they can get a guild group (especially when the instance has no tank BiS loot). For example, I would never have touched LBRS or Strat UD if guildies didn't need anything from there since there isn't any tanking BiS gear there. Just because you can't find a tank for your fail LBRS pug doesn't mean there is a shortage.
