Server size and blizzlike

While I'm sure this topic has been touched upon in many threads, I thought we could have a constructive discussion about how the server size affects the "blizzlikeness" of this server, and whether something should be done about it.
First of all I think we can all agree that the size of this server is generally something positive. We'd definately have 'too many' (assuming there is such a thing) players than too few. However, given that the limit of servers in retail vanilla was around 3k (can anyone confirm?) and we are almost double that number during peaktimes, this server diverges from being blizzlike in a very crucial aspect. I'm thinking, of course, of how spawntimers of basically everything isn't tuned to these numbers and I believe this could be a reason to increase these. Ideally, this would be done in a "dynamic" sort of way, where the server would adapt the number of spawns in relation to how many players are online/currently in the zone but I understand such a thing might not be possible. Nevertheless, I believe something eventually needs to be done.
I'd like to point out a few important facts:
The argument that it would be "unfair" to change the spawnrates now of mobs, veins, herbs etc. is unsound. Quite the contrary, the longer the server progresses the more clustered it will become as more people reach 60. That also means, by the way, that the problem of server size is not a fleeting one (assuming people continue to play), it merely changes in character.
Lastly, it cannot be objected that an increase in spawn rates would render the server unblizzlike. What is in fact blizzlike is that we have, roughly, the same ratio between spawns:players as in vanilla. As it stands now, this ratio is heavily unbalanced.
What are your thoughts?
