As far as I know, the server crashes when something happens that it doesn't expect so it basically means that someone exploited a bug and crashed the server? So if they patch those bugs then the server should be fine I think? Atleast I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Yes but the frequency of bug-related crashes increases with the number of players due to volume of actions. If the population isn't increasing, it's very troubling when the server is getting more and more unstable by the day.
