If you get reported for 'afking' once, you get a warning. Second time and you're permanently banned. Do people actually agree with this? If you do/don't, why?

I would say I don't agree, ONLY because the GMs here are so heavy handed.. and i could see getting banned again for petty reasons.

Like, seriously, 2x afk's in a battleground for the entire life of your account? Who doesn't have to run to the door every once in a while.. i don't think they were nearly that strict back in retail days.

Permanent ban seems pretty extreme. 72 hours or a week instead? I don't even want them banned, just out of my battleground with an AFK debuff would be fine. The main problem is that the system for removing an AFK player from a BG, via player vote, isn't in the game at this point.

So, I would also like to know what they constitute as "AFKing." I believe they are referring to someone who jumps their character in the corner of the map every 2 minutes for an hour-long game to keep from being booted from the BG. I think if this isn't well-defined, we're going to have some people in the scenario you described above raging on the forums.

After some intense investigation (asking two people that were recently warned) I have come to the conclusion that the following behavior is receiving warnings:

Any attempt to cause your own team to lose (even if it's just losing faster) is unacceptable.

Examples:
- Sheeping someone that would have died if you hadn't
- Racing other players around AB on your mount
- Standing at the zone in
- Being intentionally useless

It should also be noted that the GM's have not made a list of exactly what will get you banned. I recommend following this one simple rule: Don't be an asshole.

how are they going to ban and warn people for some of that stuff?
banning for that is not "blizzlike" at all

I think after repeated intentional offenses 4x+, deranking them by half a rank is enough of a deterrent. No one likes those guys that chill behind the sawmill in wsg, in the waterfall/mountain range of AB, and the harpy cave/gnome cave squatters in AV.

That being said, they'd probably need a whole new host of GMs to police that behavior to any effect

Weiner, you're habitual at AFKing... LOL

It's one thing if you join and the game is almost over, but just giving up @ the start is pretty lame. I don't think people should be perma-banned for it, but habitual offenders should face some sort of penalty.

EDIT :: One issue though, if people are node defending in AB for example, there's no real way to tell if they're AFK'n for real or not, again unless its the same people in the same spots repeatedly...

IDK, its lame, it was in retail, but I'm not sure what can be done if anything... I hate it :(
