server wipe

by LoveCoach » Tue Apr 21, 2015 6:28 am

Hello everyone!

First of all I would like to thank you for great job you have done with this server. It is very nice to play vanila again.

My concern is following. I asked several friends to come to play on your server and some of them told me that from time to time this server, and any other private server for that matter, get completely wiped for variety of reasons... hacks, updates etc... How likely is that this will happen with Nostalrius? It would really suck to invest hundreds of hours in character/s and then get wiped.

Thanks for reading and best regards

Never heard of any private server doing that unless it was an alpha/beta state server.

My old ED character got completely wiped. Several privates have had server wipes before, it's a thing.
I don't know why my old ED character got wiped, though. I just remember logging on that account last year and going "huh... oh well" - Didn't care to look into why it was gone, I stopped caring about that server many years ago.

EDIT: Apparently didn't get wiped. I was just too lazy to give a damn.

ED chars didn't get wiped, they got moved to the wow-one login thingy, which changed your account name.

So stop spreading false information. It didn't get wiped, you were just too lazy to read how you get your char back after a migration, a process that would cost 1-2 minutes including reading the faq.

it's ok to dislike a server but don't spread lies, thank you.

Like I said, I didn't bother looking up what had happened at all, I just assumed my character got wiped, perhaps due to being inactive for more than 2 years without ever logging on.
Sorry I lied, I just didn't know any better.

I'm not an expert but I would guess that taking into account the popularity of the server, and its proven stability even when serving upwards of 6000 players at once, the chances of the server getting wipes are very low. Worse case scenario would probably be a roll-back.

Highly unlikely to happen. Servers are highly reliable.

However, Molten wow's server did experience a 100% character wipe. I don't remember the exact details (cant look it up because all the threads are gone lol) but it was a result of a dissagrement between two parties involved in Molten's management. I'm not too surpised, Molten's dev team/staff were pretty shitty to begin with.

Nostalrius' staff seems compitent and not motivated by money, so I do not see the same problem happening here.
