In terms of hybrid dps, I did some research. Since it was really hard to find any real information because of people's biases towards these I didnt get much. From what I found, Elemental shaman is even weaker than balance druid, while both of them suffer from huge hit chance and mana problems in very long fights. The only real number I found was that balance druid was able to do max 750~ dps in full bis naxx gear. Comparison- fury warr does 1000~. Other casters like warlock and mage are prolly around 900+.
I didnt do any melee research, but the bias towards enha and ret are so huge you cant even find numbers. Feral seemed to be brought once in a while more than ret and enha because he had aura, "oh shit MT died" temporary solution, rezz and innervate.
Result: pure dps classes are best, some hybrids are better than others, and they might even be more fun. If you dont expect to top dps meters with hybrids, AND you bring tons of consumables, you will make it work. But a pure dps who brings the same amount of consumables and the same amount of dedication will have more dps(but more likely than not, less utility, since utility cant be put into numbers and its highly relative).
