Using the "Who" window to efficiently sort for level/class

Howdy,

I often use the "Who" window to draft my dungeon groups. However, my knowledge of its functionality is incredibly simple. I know I can search names & zones. My typical strategy is to search zones where people of the appropriate level range may be, sorting the list by level, and sending appropriate people a PM asking if they'd be interested in a dungeon. However, I believe that more advanced functionality may exist. Like the ability to search for specific zones, level ranges, and classes all at once.

Something like:
Say I'm a level 20 mage interested in a WC run...
I open "Who", search: Barrens 18-23
I whisper everyone in that list: "Interested in a WC?"

Now say we have 4 people, but need a healer...
I open "Who", search: Barrens 18-23 Priest, Druid, Shaman
I whisper everyone in that list: "Interested in healing a WC? Got a group ready to go."


If this functionality exists, I'd appreciate some advice on how to use it or direction towards a guide/explanation. Thanks!

PS. Bonus points if there's an addon that already does this and can auto whisper everyone in the list so I don't have to click 50 names by hand. I suspect this functionality exists or those Gold Bots have a pretty laborious task.

Good way to end up in a ignore list.

When i'm on a toon with heal or tank abilities, i'm fed up with theses spammers.
At firt i responded a rash "no", now i just don't answer. But i'm more and more tempted to add them to my ignore list (except the ones allready in my friend list, who ask me for a good reason : we know each other, and appreciate to play together).

I suspect this functionality exists or those Gold Bots have a pretty laborious task.

Use vQueue for a respectfull way of organising dungeons. Use the LFG channel, which is another proper way of doing things without annoying others. Use /1, because you are on the place, so it make sense to talk about that in general. Even /1 in a capital is nearly ok. Don't use /2, we goblins can't care less about your dungeon (but at least, it's quite easy to filter here).

I agree. I'm already in /1, /2, and /world and see the spams. If I were interested, I would respond there. Though it only really starts to annoy me when the same person asks multiple times or they start begging.

Gasp, I'm going to end up on the the ignore list of people who weren't going to interact with me anyway?

I've been using my method since retail Vanilla, it gets groups together incredibly quickly and I've met some awesome people I'd otherwise never run into asking /1 & guild chat. (Remember, less than a third of level appropriate players are likely to be in your zone.)

If being asked to party by someone (once), is enough to end up on your ignore list? Frankly, you're a person I'm not interested in partying with anyway. G'day sir.

The issue arises in that /1 & /2 reach less than a third of appropriate players and /world has a wide range of content that less than 5% of is relevant to a given player. My method is targetted, direct, and only reaches people who it's appropriate for. Frankly, I can't keep /world on because it makes it impossible to keep track of /1, /p, and /g, chats which are relevant to my playing experience.

And I never ask the same player twice because yes, that is terribly irritating.

Yes, and you can even use multiple ones of the same directive.

Your example "Barrens 18-23 Priest, Druid, Shaman" would be
z-barrens 18-23 c-priest c-druid c-shaman

I currently have a chat-addon (whose name escapes me now) that makes mass-whispering incredibly inconvenient. Every whisper populates its own window (which is good). But if in the time between me sending the last whisper and the new window being created, I rightclick on another name in "Who", instead of getting the menu for the player (Whisper, Invite, Add Friend, etc), I get a list of all my active Whisper Windows.

I meant about the /who part only (which I just did in its own thread).

I agree with the others that using something like vQueue or CallToArms is preferable when it comes to managing groups.
