ElvUI or TukUI - PLEASE :)

Hey everyone,

I've currently been using a semi - backported version of SpartanUI that I backported myself and it works nicely, nothing great (no unitframes, just basic working tooltips, exp/rep bars, positioning of minimap and zoom functionality, using bongos). However, I have always used ElvUI or TukUI on retail more so than SpartanUI as these are my two out of three favorite UI's.

I found that a guy by the name "icum0nu" who had been in the progress of backporting ElvUI to work flawlessly with 1.12.1 client (Link provided: https://www.youtube.com/user/icum0nu/videos). Now, I see that his progress as pretty much halted/ended.

My question, does anyone here have enough LUA knowledge to start an ElvUI backport project for 1.12.1? I would be happy to join. I am currently a backend/frontend web developer (PHP, HTML, CSS, JQUERY, JAVA) and my knowledge of LUA/XML is limited. I can understand things written in LUA, but I just cant speak it very fluently.

I have also come across a couple backports of the two UI's starting with ElvUI. A guy by the name of "Bunny67" who backported a MOP version of ElvUI to 3.3.5a WotLK (Link provided: https://github.com/ElvUI/ElvUI).

Another I came across is TukUI backported for 2.4.3 by Myke (Link provided: http://www.de4th.com/MykesUI/index.phtml).

Maybe these could be a base to start with?

Please let me know if anyone wants to start this or has a "secret" backported version of ElvUI or TukUI they would like to share.

Let me know what you guys think.

PS: NO I do not want minikN or xeekUI as an alternative. I am looking to start a development of the actual UI backported.

Yeah its such a pretty UI, so clean and has the features you wish wow had from the start.

Clearly you didn't read anything I said. I know it doesn't work. I'm asking if anyone wants to start a backport of the retail version. I know its possible. It requires an in depth knowledge in Vanilla LUA, clearly. Like I said, I am looking to see if anyone wants to make the reality happen.

I currently have backported SpartanUI version 2.5.2 in which I tweaked a lot to make look similar to ElvUI, but its just not the same. My LUA knowledge is very low. I'd be happy to make a complete ElvUI in PHP/HTML/JAVASCRIPT/CSS but what good would that do lol.

I would help out but I suspect backporting an entire UI addon would be an extremely difficult affair and while I've learned a lot about vanilla addon dev, I don't think I could handle something that big yet. I'm looking into backporting smaller addons (especially ones that don't do much in the way of UI) right now to get acquainted with how things work, or fixing existing small vanilla addons.

When I have something more than the few things I have done, I'll post the github. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some help with this.

Awesome man! I actually was in the progress of doing the same thing. Didn't get very far, but it had most of the same appearance, just wasn't the same. Hell, if you can pull this off, I would gladly help out. Something about having ElvUI or TukUI makes me want to play the game more. Otherwise, I get bored quick with the default UI.
