Maybe the staff would be better served by being more specific about the 3rd party program. If it was just the addon then that's messed up, if there was truly a 3rd party program they should say so.

So, there are a few things I would like to point out here before my thread is locked and I become a distant memory and a casualty of the hard working and slightly un-informed staff.


1) There is a serious problem with the account issues forum. This started as a thread where I inqured as to why I was banned and asked the staff to look into it. The only relevant information was what had been posted by me. Whoever thought I was botting already made their ticket and gave all relevant information to the GMs. That is the point at which their involvement in the matter should end.

Suddenly, 4 other people show up in the thread. One of these (yadungoofed) was a self proclaimed exploiter who was stealing other's gold via a malicious add-on he distributed. Another (NOanswerfrommod) is someone who got banned for exploiting (sniping the auction house) and is of course claiming his innocence: "that was an assumption on me, and i am trying to prove them wrong by giving them information needed right now " But obviously he knows for certain that I was in the wrong: "GM's DO happen to ban people on hunches, I can give you some examples even. This one however was not a hunch." Oh...and his account was created yesterday. Why didn't he post from the same account that he used for his account issues inquiry? Afraid that I might go there and start saying I know for a fact that he's guilty because he sniped the auctions of 5 of my friends? Apparently he knows how this place works.

The other 2 (Vorfidus and Glenzig don't seem to have been banned themselves for any kind of exploitation, but if you look at what all 4 of these posters have in common it's that the majority of each users posts is in the "Account Issues" forum. Unless they have an account issue, why do they spend so much time posting here?

The posts of these 4 only extended the length of the thread and fill it with conjecture and complete misinformation:

Actually that wasn't me. Once again a case of baseless accusations by anonymous forum posters. That was Samgry. A very nice mage from Pleasuretown Adventures whom I consider a friend.

Many people use this addon. None of us knew that WoW addons from retail vanilla were bannable.

So you end up with a request for inquiry, misinformation, false accusations, people trolling with "Read the ToU and enjoy your ban" (which says nothing about bannable in-game addons), and people screaming about how the trade addon you used was against the rules who apparently never played Vanilla WoW for a day in their lives (because they probably weren't born yet) and so obviously don't know what addons were legal back then.

There is nothing about this forum section that is fair to the person having an account issue. My issue was ruled on based on what others (who have nothing to do with my problem whatsoever) have posted. It's very apparent that the GM didn't bother to even visit the link I posted for the add-on in question and simply jumped on the bandwagon of haters. This whole thread has been nothing but a kangaroo court. The forum should only allow replies from the OP.

2) Ohhgee in the General Discussion forum brought up a good point:

When AV first released, we queued as a group using yet another simple in game script which was usable in retail, and the raid leaders were banned for "illegal 3rd party program"

Is this not the same exact thing? A WoW addon that was legal in retail but suddenly determined to be illegal on Nostalrius. If I recall they were given a temporary suspension. Not a permanent ban. Even the temporary suspension seemed harsh given that there was no possible way they could know that in the minds of the Nostalrius staff it was not legal.

3) There was no 3rd party software in use. Nostalrius loves to tout its amazing anti-cheat/bot/exploit/etc. technology. If I am being accused of using a 3rd party program by all means tell me what it was, and if something was detected then it would have shown up as indexfinger.1983. WoW addons are not 3rd party software. Saying that I was banned for using 3rd party software just implies that nothing I posted in my thread was even reviewed and that the staff who are in charge of reviewing these types of issues should be more familiar with in-game addons/macros/etc. I'm not saying that tigru isn't fair or educated. I'm simply stating that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses and maybe familiarity with in-game addons is not one of his/hers.

I know personally it's not a bot, sure it's one automated sequence but it only works for food and water, what is the harm?

The whole banning someone for using it is completely absurd and pretty outrageous.

the account in question will stay banned permanently according to our Terms of Use as the player indeed used an automated program to provide items (sometimes received money) through automated transaction & discussion/whispers, with the capability of staying online 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Now more generally, and as a reminder, insults won't lead the discussion anywhere.

When a request of support regarding a ban is written, we first need to investigate it, double-check and so on. This will take time and can involve multiple staff members. The important thing to know is that each case is reviewed if asked by a player, even for people who cheated on purpose and then try whatever tricks they can to get their character back: including lying, attempted bribery, insults or even threats.

Applying sanctions isn't an easy task but it has to be done so that players can enjoy a server without abuse.

In the others hand, if you can't do it, at least, please, show some respect to this team, they really deserve it.
