give us a list of all addons you are using and if there's any new addon you just recently installed, if possible with the link to where you found it

Shami has it right, as a player that has been here since the start I've never met anyone whose account was hacked.

There's a reason the staff have to be harsh enforcing the tou. Gold selling happens a lot here, I assume, as the sites advertise successfully. Imagine how many more people would buy gold if it was a temp ban. What's 50$ when you don't have to pay monthly and getting caught would only mean a temp ban? Buyers would rise exponentially.

Same applies to acct sharing/hacking. If you could recover your account with just a story, hell why not sell your account then scream "I was hacked"! Just an example.

Also as was stated, there are add-ons that have had problems with deleting items and gold

Sorry that this happened to you. I have a few comments.

First, when people see a story like this, they tend to be dismissive because it didn't happen to them, or they attribute it to the victim's recklessness. Really it should be taken seriously, especially when the OP is a regular on the server and can articulate what happened very well. It could happen to someone whose English isn't so good, and their post or complaint could easily be overlooked.

Second, even though it's just a game with fake money and fake items, we invest a lot of time into certain things, and when an important thing disappears it makes you feel awful. Something similar happened to me a couple of weeks ago and it affected my mood IRL, and made me want to quit.

For some reason a dog-eat-dog-world attitude permeates through this community. It makes no sense, since we're playing on this server for nostalgia reasons. We all have something in common and the atmosphere should be supportive. If the GMs conclude that his account was hacked and they cannot help (hopefully if this is the case they do not ban), we should try to support this guy in game. We shouldn't have a regular player quit because of a problem that could happen to anyone. IMO listen to what he has to say because it affects all of us.

I would rather say people are dismissive because they see the stories that are obviously made up in an attempt to hide what was really going on, while others see stories and say "hey it was his wife he said so unban him!" We have to assume gms can see a lot more than we can and also assume they make their calls based on valid evidence they are not required to show.

This is not the case here of course as there is no story, just a guy whose gold is gone and would like to get to the bottom of it. Rather I was stating why most that read this section dismiss stories quickly. A gm hasn't even responded yet so it could still be a case of an add-on causing this as it has happened before

This guy has been a hunter in my guild for 5+ months. He hasn't missed a raid. Not one. My play time is over 34 days, and I'm sure he's got me beat. Do people really thing he'd risk his account to make some money? He'd make a lot more dedicating the countless hours to a job/2nd job.

He's always on (whether it's on his 60 hunter, 60 rogue, 60 warlock, or I believe, 60 warrior), and has always demonstrated his love for this game. He's not the type to try to sell his gold or account, and he's even advised me in the past on technical computer stuff, so I can see if he's certain it's not a mistake on his part with viruses/malware.

This is the 2nd hunter in the past 2 months in our guild to lose everything. Both are stand-up individuals. I get it if you don't know the guy, and if it doesn't happen to you, it's easy to turn your shoulder. But from my point of view, I now fear that my own account could one day just be gone, work that I've put in since July. So no one should be so quick to yell, "tough luck!".

I've had nothing but great interactions with the GM's on this server, and I understand they are busy dealing with hundreds of thousands of accounts, but I sure hope they can find the time to not let an innocent man lose almost a year of hard work.

Well, it's extremely concerning to hear that nothing will be done. One of my raiders who has been here an extremely lengthy amount of time is ready to hang it up now that no justification for this will happen. Even though all his equipment is still there, a huge amount of gold has been stolen and he will likely quit due to the possibly that this can happen again and next time he may be even less lucky and lose his gear as well. And from this experience , we now know that regardless of precaution and regardless of innocence we can still get screwed over.

With 10k+ players often online this stuff is bound to happen, some restoration system is way more fit than doing nothing and letting players who have been here for nearly a year rot. I'm sure a good 40-60 guldies are going to be very concerned for their own accounts when they hear about this. Especially if we've not done anything to risk losing our accounts and they still are hacked. If this happened to my friend/raider, It can happen to any of us that choose to play on this server. The fact that nothing is done to justify this is concerning to say the least, and anyone who has weeks/months of logged time here could at any time lose all there invested time and work in the Nostalrius project with no hope of any actions being taken to properly correct it.

I wasn't going to keep posting, but since we're not yet locked and atm it's already top section, I guess it doesn't matter right now. Daemon did answer this with a PM, basically saying they won't restore. Our accounts obviously aren't safe, believe it or not as you like, and if something does happen to you, there's no insurance, not even for money they could have charged for it. I have a real job. I don't need to sell gold. I'd have paid for account insurance or service instead... If he sends more PMs, I'll probably edit them to the bottom of this as to not keep post bumping(if we're not locked). I sent an answer back, but this case is pretty much closed by the sounds of it.

Farewell Nost, and to all the good peeps in <House Undying>. (Recruitment for new dedicated raid Hunters is now open...) It was a great nostalgic 11 months, despite all the server issues.

Hello,

After checking the logs, it looks like someone could access your account (different IP) on the 2016-02-06 around 20:00 (server time) for the character Schuss/Untoten.
If you need more information, let me know.

But we won't be able to restore these missing items/gold, since we have the proof that it is not a server side bug.
