I can log in on the website but can't log in on the game client. This is my first time playing btw

You need to create a game account as well as a forum account. You can do that at the "Join Us!" link on http://en.nostalrius.org/. The direct link is https://en.nostalrius.org/register.

Be sure you use an E-mail address that you will be able to access in the future, as it is required in case you ever want to do a game account password reset.

P.S. your game account name should not be the same as your forum name or any character name for security reasons.
