Just joined a few moments ago. First thing I did was run to stormwind to check out the population/activity. Shortly after entering stormwind city, I was banned.

It sounds like you were banned by the automatic chat spam filter. It is recommended you do not use the chat channels before reaching level 15.

A GM will review the ban once he reach the request, but at the moment they are busy so you will need a little patience.
