Missing Gold/Items

Missing Gold/Items

by Drain » Sun Feb 07, 2016 3:46 am

Despite only ever being protective of my account, I logged in today to find 2 of my characters missing all of their gold, and 1 missing many valuable potions. This is several week's worth of work, and easily could have been months or my entire career on the server. I never gave any of this away or tried to sell it for money. I don't know if the account was compromised, or if the server somehow lost all my stuff, either way, you should investigate where my stuff magically went! I never give out any information, and I have a deep knowledge of computers and their security. I seriously doubt there is any way through fault of my own that someone could have gotten this information.

I'm not even sure it was robbed because my banks are still here, and my equipment is still here. I'm just missing gold and a few stacks of Mongoose/FR potions... A thief would typically drop your professions, pick up enchanting, shard everything you own, then mail off every single thing of value to your name. This has not occurred to me(yet?). I still need to know wtf happened to my account, whether or not anyone is going to help me, and what's to stop it from happening again...

Please take a look into this and investigate why one of my core raiders lost all of his gold and how this could have happened. Please consider some justification for this happening to someone who's dedicated much time to your project.

Please and thanks.

Every day since launch. Look how far back my post history goes heh. I sure hope I'm not left to rot... I'm currently hammering my computer with scanners, but I've yet to find anything. I doubt I will, given the security I already operate with. I'm 99% convinced this isn't from any fault of my own...

I hope someone helps with this. It just isn't a good sign for the server or its players.

Yes, if something is not done about this , it is a huge concern for players and their investments of time on this server.

GM's will answer the following:
  • Account security is the sole responsibility of the player (you)
  • No gold or items will be returned.

And if the account is deemed compromised, you may get a permanent ban also.
Or in short: You are on your own here.

There's no way that I could find that this could have been my fault, not from anything infecting my client, browser, or computer itself. It's obvious to me now our accounts simply aren't safe, despite being assured up to now that they were. Worse yet is that when something does occur to it, they won't do anything about it. They'll probably ban me for being an "account sharer" or "gold seller", despite never doing either. But I'm going to risk this as I probably won't stay anyway if my work is not restored. Security has failed. The only thing after this is restoration/recovery, which Blizzard would have done for you. I would even pay this server to do it for me, either as a monthly insurance fee or service fee. I'd rather spend money and keep playing here. The server is worth this to me. They should sell us this kind of thing, not leave us to rot.

This is true, blizzard would do something to restore characters/gold/items/ect. in these circumstances. It's extremely disturbing and worrisome to know that no proper actions are resulted when players have done nothing wrong and have followed terms of service and are responded to with the following time and time again:

"please review your security practices before you do."
"Never share your account information;
Have a unique and complicated password that does not exceed 16 characters;
Connect yourself from a secure computer and network;
Never download unsafe files that might contain viruses/malware."

When these precautions have been taken and there is still no process to recover accounts to people who have supported this server, have logged played time of days upon days,have recommended this server to friends, been here since launch, are huge assets to the guild they invested time into. There's a reason blizzard had restorative services, because simply things like this happen. It's very concerning as somebody who helps to run a guild , to know that we could lose players we invest gear and time to as well as our friends when they have only followed Nostalrius' Terms. Some justification ought to take place rather than a ridiculous compromising of the account or a false accusation that my raider was selling/buying things when he clearly wouldn't with the time invested into this server. This server is huge and the population is extremely high, cases like this are bound to come up and they ought to be treated fairly and with real justification.

Just a thought, repeatedly bumping your own topic (or having a friend do it) does not make the gm reviews any faster. There has been no reply from a gm so I wouldn't get all excited yet from what others post as I am sure the gm's have seen the post and are/will investigate it. They want to know what happened as much as you do I am sure.

So basically wait for the staff here to reply before jumping to any conclusions.

I'm using previous posts to see what the general actions are when a situation like this has occurred. Generally something along the lines of

Never share your account information;
Have a unique and complicated password that does not exceed 16 characters;
Connect yourself from a secure computer and network;
Never download unsafe files that might contain viruses/malware.

is the response followed by a locked thread left to rot. It's not a matter of bumping this but rather trying to build some case before this is dismissed and pushed aside. It'd be very awful to lose a core raider who has been with us for months when he's done nothing against the terms and followed it's suggestions.

This has just been a very concerning matter and I feel that players who invested so much and are innocent should not be left helpless. As for the GM's/Devs, if you are working on this and investigating thank you.
