Banned for being a "BOT"

Face it team, we cant use AddOns on #nostalrius #blizzISH... too bad, high hopes.

So where is a GM/Moderator that is going to make a list of ADDONS that are allowed and ADDONS that are not allowed? Or atleast be specific, not halfassed, about it. (Water Dispensing?)

So where is a GM/Moderator that is going to make a list of SCRIPTS that are allowed and SCRIPTS that are not allowed? Or atleast be specific, not halfassed, about it. (Resetting instance and camping out(DM:EAST)?)

So where is a GM/Moderator that is going to make a list of MACROS that are allowed and MACROS that are not allowed? Or atleast be specific, not halfassed, about it. (MouseOver macro like /Lunamo?)

Rest well my waterdispensing friend..

Well, I'll vouch for Vanilla, every time I got food & water from him he /cheered at me (as he once whispered that he liked my SpamThrottle addon).

This is the kind of ban that I'm afraid that we will have to live with on Nostalrius. Bans for using an addon. Bans without warning for playing the game as it's designed. Bans without warning for using an API call that the staff suddenly decides is off limits. You never know what will trigger the next ban. TradeDispenser now appears to be one. Lazypig was one of those too.

I can tell you that if I trip across something that gets me banned, I personally will be happy to create a new account and follow the ToU - on another server. And i think the more of this that happens, the more people will make that decision.

what he was doing is impossible to do with addons alone, it needs hardware input. I'm 100% sure he was using a third party program to press keys ingame.

The addons themselves are not the problem.

edit: https://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic. ... 10#p161618 explains it pretty well

What I'm saying is he was pressing the buttons.
I know at least when I interacted with him, he WHISPERED ME. And /cheered. etc.

This is not to say it's proof that he wasn't botting. But I've seen a lot of threads with people who say they got banned while pressing an occasional button while watching videos. It seems possible. And no evidence that a GM could find would result in a reversal if that happened.

And YES, the addons were the problem in the Lazypig case, where the addon used an API call that Nost decided was off limits.

Please learn to read.

Oh, I was just talking about the part where you said that he got banned for using addons. I'm sure that it wasn't the reason he got banned.

There's no way for the GMs to tell if he was legit or using a macro program, as the program would only be mimicking the same input as pressing it on a keyboard would.

Ban's on a hunch for things like this are a little unfair. All that hardwork by someone leveling a character gone in an instant because a "GM" decides that's he think's he is botting. I know we don't get all the details. Maybe the GM that banned him was watching him for some time and trying to talk to him.

I dunno it's a mighty big grey area at the moment this addons business. Nost have 7k players to watch while Blizzard had 10s of thousands online. Nost are always going to be ahead on catching people out.

Yeah I updated my post since that quote. It's the pattern i'm concerned with.

I have a rogue that I mine in Silithus with. I did NOT get banned. But I don't know why not. I apparently was not doing whatever it was that got people banned. But I knew about the 45 mins fixed spawn time, and sometimes used it to my advantage (just not on an Industrial Scale). At the time with no idea that it might be crossing some line.

After a LOT of investigation, I still have no idea what line was crossed there. And THAT is the problem. We need to know what line Vanilla crossed, so we don't cross it. It's why i read the ban posts in fact, to make sure I don't cross those lines.

But I can honestly say, I can't tell where they are at times. And they seem to suddenly appear at random.

Why wait? Youre obviously very dissatisfied with Nost. You derail threads constantly, bringing up a dead issue. You seem to feel that the staff has some hidden agenda wherein banning players for no reason furthers their goal of wow emu domination. Every time someone gets banned that you feel was unwarranted you try to run some PR campaign claiming that the sky is falling on Nost and it's player base. If you are so dissatisfied, why wait? You can leave anytime you want. You won't even get banned for it.

This guy is literally the worst kind of person in the world. Salty as fuck because he got banned for LITERALLY robbing innocent people, so he gets someone banned for handing out mage water and then rubs it in his face on the forums. What a fucking scumbag piece of shit.
