Banned for being a "BOT"

Banned for being a "BOT"

by Vanillerific » Thu Oct 08, 2015 12:40 am

Character name: Vanillerific

I attempted to log on this evening and was presented with the banned account message. I verified by logging on to the Nostalrius website and it confirmed that I was banned for "BOT".

I do not and have not ever botted before. I sit in Ironforge and offer free food and water to players. To do this I use the same addon that many other mages use: TradeDispenser. This is an addon that was created and used during vanilla WoW that automates the trading process and allows you to define what items to trade automatically based on the class that is trading you. It also has an auto announce feature which I set to once every 2 minutes (which is far less than most people advertise). A player simply opens a trade window with me and the correct items are placed in the window and the trade is accepted automatically. There are no 3rd party programs involved. The addon can be found here if you would like to review it:

I use this in conjunction with the addon aquatrix which allows you to easily conjure with a single button:

If I ever thought I could be banned for giving away conjured consumables I never would have done it. I originally installed the addon for handing out consumables quickly and easily during raids and then started using it while chatting with friends in Ironforge and watching tv. It seemed like a good way to make a few tips by sitting in Ironforge and opening the UBRS door like I would normally be doing anyways.

The tips really have not been that lucrative (I can make much more farming DM E). I received a lot of nice messages from other players and actually made quite a few friends and so have continued offering my service to the community.

I would like to ask you to please review my case and reconsider your decision. If you do not want people using trade addons that were a normal part of vanilla WoW then it should be stated that those addons are not allowed. I spent a lot of time on my character, and to have it banned for helping out the community just doesn't feel right.

Thank you for your time.

So you were just spamming (at least one) button for 6 hours straight?

Hello level 5 dwarf who was rudely harassing me because I refused to give you the name of the addon I was using and forced me to /ignore you. It's funny how you were also telling other players that you were the developer of that gold stealing addon that wreaked havoc a few weeks back (maybe your avatar has something to do with that) yet also argued that a WoW addon could not automatically handle trading. I guess you were wrong.

Well duh, of course it can't handle trading because AcceptTrade() is a protected function since early vanilla! http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/API_AcceptTrade

So is CastSpellByName which is used to summon water http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/API_CastS ... did=115492

protip: protected functions can only by activated by hardware input

I suppose I will have to hope that the staff members take a look at the addon linked above from Vanilla WoW and find that it works exactly as I have stated. It is the same addon used by countless other mages and I have made 0 modifications to it. If you were to do the same then you would realize that you are wrong. However, that is irrelevant. I am here to resolve a problem by speaking to staff members, not a salty, anonymous, level 5 dwarf.

Hahahahahahha, that programmer wrecked you. Enjoy your ban botter! Being afk, and making money is against the rules. Feel free to make another account, but this time no botting!

So you thought an add-on that not only placed items in the trade window for you when anyone opened trade and accepted said trade, but also made you money while you were AFK was allowed? Yeah... Ok. Enjoy your ban. You're a disgrace to magi everywhere.

I don't claim to be a developer of addons, but if an API was protected then I believe that would mean that it would not be available for use by addons. Which it clearly is. Addon does not equal bot. Especially if it was allowed and distributed for use in retail vanilla (which is what we are supposed to be emulating here). Thank you for your reply though.

Lol he is so mad. If you look up his character, hes geared as shit. Kid thought it was OKAY to sit in Ironforge, botting. Even put a message " EDIT : Going for pizza, feel free to trade, AFK "
