warned for "AFK" in battlegrounds

warned for "AFK" in battlegrounds

by idoril » Fri Jan 22, 2016 11:49 am

Dear Gamemasters,

I started doing a lot of PvP (in battlegrounds) two days ago. However, as you are probably aware of, some people will report you for actually defending a flag (Arathi Basin), instead of following the zerg since you probably wont have a lot of kills / deaths in some cases while defending.

Since I already have a warning for supposedly afking in Alterac Valley, which I accepted since in turtle games I started mining (like at least 20 other people in the same battleground) instead of joining the zerg, I am afraid of joining any more battegrounds, given the above reasons. I am the Maintank in a raiding guild, so I do PvP on the side and I really really dont wanna get banned for something that I do on the side for "fun".

Remark: while the GM was talking to me I was actually defending eastern frostwolf tower and when I told him so he called me a "liar", therefore I assume gamemasters dont want to / can not "look into" battlegrounds? This makes me even more afraid.

My question: How can I make sure, that when defending a flag (what you often need to do in order to win) and getting reported I have enough proof to appeal the ban? (just in case)

Thank you for your time
Veay <Last Requiem>

Let me tell you a story about a player caught leeching in a BG.

They got caught - instead of being man enough to deal with it and move on, they logged onto the forums and attempted to make the GM's look like the bad guys with comments not backed up with any evidence.

Stop leeching and you won't get Warnings......

Your welcome.

Good thing I already knew that some smartass like you would turn up.

Believe it or not, I am not "attempting" to do anything, I am just reporting my personal experience and want to be prepared in case I should be reported for leeching, while actually defending a flag. (some people do not know or care about the difference) Based on what I wrote (if you'd actually read it) gamemasters do not have the time to track back every single battleground and will probably go "hey this guy was warned 2 months ago, he probably did it again".

I accepted my warning but do not wanna be banned due to false accusations. And similar to you, there is a lot of people out there who like to accuse and condemn without even having legit proof themselves.

Attack is not always the first means of defence and on occasions can read as an attempt to cover up or as stated above to deflect the attention from the real truth.

Firstly - Thank you for calling me smart, at least you acknowledge and accept this.

Secondly - You are wanting us to believe you with ZERO proof - but condem the actions of GM staff who have according to you have ZERO proof. So what makes your word more special?

I am sure the GM's do not just take reports and believe them - I am sure they come and check you out and do some form of checks to ensure if you are defending or afk. If you accepted your warning you are in essence accepting you were afk......

I agree that there are people who assume players are afk when clearly they are not, be it defending or they just dont like that player - That is why I have the utmost belief that the GM's would not just warn an account on the say so of a player(s) report. I think you can also gauge this by the investigations they do on alot of the post in this forum.

Greetings.

First of all, the account associated with Veay has never been banned, or warned for being AFK in a battleground; or for any other reason - the account is completely clean. Second, do not underestimate the powers a GM has to watch you. And we do not take action against players based on another player's word for it; we always verify that an infraction of the ToU has indeed occurred.

Please PM me the name of the GM that you were speaking with, if you happen to remember it. The reason for this is that it may be someone impersonating a GM.

If you are truly that concerned about your warning and what the GM said to you, surely you would have taken a screenshot of said GM calling you a liar while giving you the warning.

Thanks for your reply. I am certain it was a game master, since I shift + clicked his name to double check. Unfortunately I was not able to take a screenshot (see below), but maybe you can find out by checking my chatlog on the AV weekend where I bought my AV exalted ring by searching for the word "warning" or "game master".

I happen to be contribute data to realmplayers.com. As I was fairly new back then I was not aware of the fact that taking screenshots after starting WoW via the realmplayer launcher and not playing in windowed mode will result in a screenshot of your desktop. Furthermore I did not want get in an argument with a gamemaster and make it worse than it was and just accepted the warning.
