the main reason people get hacked is because they use the same password on multiple diff websites,

another is because the their character name is the same as their account login

^ same goes with forum usernames, stop being stupid people

as far as your idea on security they shouldnt have to waste their time on peoples stupidity.

My account got ''hacked'' the other day. When I was on my hunter I saw that my main had logged in, and I quickly logged into my main account to check if everything was okay, it was luckily, so i changed my password and did a computer scan to check for keyloggers, virus' and so on, nothing was found, nor had i been ''hacked'' on any other websites before this, your statement is complete and utter shit.

Considering the extreme amount of time invested in an MMO, yeah, they should. They could even charge money for it. I'm sure over 90% of the 10k players online right now are willing to pay a couple of $ for some security. Fact is, you could log on tomorrow and find your character empty and there's nothing you can do about it and the GMs have made it clear that there's going to be no item restoration for those cases.

Maybe an authenticator is too complex to create, just like that, but surely something could be done. Like email or textmessage verification on IP or computer, like in Path of Exile / Gmail / Microsoft etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.

Theres ALOT more people who got hacked than these listed. And many is afraid of telling the GM's because of their account compromised policy

Fuck it,

I also got hacked (Djseppelx, pvp server), yesterday around 17:00. I happened to be on at the time, and after 3 DCs after another I realized that this was not just an ordinary server issue. I spam-connected to my account in order to buy time while I did the password reset, and I managed to buy enough time to ONLY lose my 1270 gold. I shut the hacker out before he could vendor my items and bank...

Needless to say, seeing the #NostPolicy (actually I think it's great you enforce your rules harshly, but I feel this to be a different case aswell) I decided to not report this (like other people in this thread have suggested, since after all, gold is only gold, and my character is what actually is of value).

Your rules stipulate that any lost gold or items will not be replaced under any circumstances, and FINE, I can deal with that if you really must, but we need higher security than what currently exists.

For the record, I had no kronos account, I have not downloaded any addon in the past 6 months at the very least, and I am very PC-smart. Fucking hell I'm doing a masters in comp. sci. Couldn't actually believe my eyes when I saw someone had gained access to my account.

Edit: I don't entirely know the technology behind an authenticator, but I would be willing to devote time and effort to help develop an app for smartphones that could act as one if this is of any interest to the staff.

Edit #2: I also know the names of more people that don't want to speak about this openly.
