Account hacked, change your policies please.

Account hacked, change your policies please.

by Shiffan » Mon Mar 14, 2016 1:58 pm

Hello my account named "Shiffan" and my main character Forceberg just got hacked of everything I got on it, I would be dream to get the stuff back but im gonna try anyway.

Let me get you some background story on who I am on this server. I am Forceberg, I started playing on this server over one YEAR ago, and Ive been maintanking for Brilliance since like march last year, Ive pretty much dedicated most of my free time to this game, and I had pretty much every useful piece that I could use ingame appart from thunderfury.

I have always loved to play on this server, and I wish my ending here wouldn't be as brutal as this one, I can understand if you wont give me my gear and gold and whatever back, but could you please let me know how this happened? Where did someone log into my account from to steal my stuff? I wouldn't even give my password to my mother if her life depended on it.

I wish we could use this example to whoever is doing this to our accounts and stop it and maybe even change your policy in these matters. I mean a guildmember named björnbusen had the exact same thing happen to him a few days ago, and I assume we are not the only ones.

Literally the same thing happened to me, I was too afraid to make a ticket due to the risk of being banned though ,since compromised account = ban?

Surely there must be something fishy going on considering that it's happened alot recently.

So ye, yesterday one of our warlocks got hacked, 4k gold, all gear sold! And now our maintank. Forceberg probably have one of the top played time on this server and done a ton of work to get all his gear. Can you please explain how this happened. A lot of us are getting worried.
Where was the gold sent? From where did they log in? What caused the breach?

This is a perfect example how your game experience is totally ruined cause of your policy when they made no mistake.

Best regards

No, I dont have a kronos account, and if they ban me for having a compromised account, so be it, got nothing to lose at this stage.

Ok, well I'm too just trying to figure out why/how I was got hacked. I guess blaming kronos was a long shot though.

I've been trying to make a compilation of recently hacked accounts here.

Obviously, I cannot use the information for anything, but maybe the devs can. Account security is (apparently) becoming a huge problem on Nostalrius and considering the genre we're playing, I'd say that's of crucial importance.

Forceberg is a prime example of why that is. He dedicated a large portion of his life, for the past year, to building that character. Now it's gone, just like that. That isn't right and needs to be dealt with, somehow. As I see it, this can be done in one of two ways; improving our options for account security or gamemasters and developers actively helping those who have been hacked, by restoring their accounts.

Like it was stated in the other thread.. while sad that these things happen, it can usually be attributed to poor security practices such as using the same username and password on multiple websites, username is their character name, username is forum account name, ect.

Blizzard's accounts get hacked all the time, even the ones that have authenticators. It's hilarious how the Nostalrius devs think their security is greater than Blizzard's by saying that getting your account hacked in here is 100% your fault.

Who ever said that?

My guess is Nostalrius chose this approach, since following Blizzard practices would open for abuse; for example by selling / disenchanted my items, and then claiming I got hacked and get my items back.

The tracking abilities is not nearly as good as in retail - and the staff here is doing everything on a voluntary basis, so the ressources to investigate fraud simply isn't present.

Last - but very important: MANY people are using their ingame name as account name. We see that every day in the "account issues" section. I can also assume that many people use the same account name and password combination on multiple servers. Those people are literally asked to be hacked - if you can even use that word in that context.

It is implied, since the ToS says that getting hacked is 100% your fault and there's no doubt about it, ALL OF IT is your fault, even if god came down to earth and hacked me it would still be 100% MY fault.
