Hacked and deleted

My account was hacked today. The hacker spoke with my guild and friends and also sent out some of my gold to them before deleting my 60 priest. This all happened in a span of about 30 minutes as I immediately tried to login when a friend messaged me asking to confirm if I was quitting the guild as the hacker supposedly announced in guild chat. Upon trying to login, I found I couldn't and immediately changed my password. Logging back in, my level 60 shadow priest was deleted.

Is there anything that can be done about this? There was a lot of time put into leveling that character, pvping, and raiding and I really would hope there's a way to recover from this kind of hack, especially if it's happening to many.

Unfortunately we do not restore characters, items or gold deleted due to account compromise. This case was likely not a result of the recent gold seller hack wave. Rather, it has the profile of someone you know that either guessed your account details or that you shared your account information with. It may be someone IRL or that you've dealt with in your in-game travels.

You did exactly the right thing by immediately changing your password. Hopefully you chose something that is very difficult to guess.

Sorry for your loss, but there is nothing we can do in this case.

Thanks for the reply. Supposedly another guild mate said this happened to him shortly after it happened to me. I agree that it doesn't seem like they were after something in particular A) because I didn't have too much gold on me but also B) because they actually sent 16G randomly to one of my friends who ended up returning it to my alt.

There's no way to track if the majority of the gold, despite not being much, went to a specific account? And there's no way to create an ungeared 60 to save me from having to go through not just leveling all the way back up but gearing up again?

Additionally, the limited friends I do know IRL who play with me are childhood friends and i've never shared my account information with them or anyone else...
