Random ban anyone guilty or not and they will not be able to provide "proof" that they have not been breaking the rules in accordance to your statement, and thus deserve the ban.

The proof in all these cases consists of what information the Nostalrius team has gathered, analyzed and confirmed against offender X. Sure mistakes do happen very rarely from time to time and has thus been corrected by the team themselves. The burden of proof is anything but transperent here so you need to establish a dialogue in order for you to be able to provide the "evidence" that you have done nothing wrong. Then we are obviously not counting in to the fact that every bit of information can be tampered with.


Example:
You are banned.
You make an appeal, you were banned for "major bug exploiting".
You have no idea how to provide evidence against that.
You are remain banned.

Example:
You are banned.
You make an appeal, you were banned for "gold trafficking".
You contact X and provide whatever information you can.
X can now choose to unban your account or decline your appeal, knowing that every bit of information you provided may have been tampered with towards your advantage.
You are most likely still banned.


TL:DR; Players being unbanned are usually due to an initial mistake/harsh decision/false positive by X, however in most if not all cases there is no real burden of proof - only the public perception of it: Nostalrius doesn't need to show you their proof as to why you got banned, and you can't in >99% of the cases provide evidence against their ruling.
