Also typing /leave general followed by /join general can fix this

If you disconnect, or take a flight in and out trade chat, chat gets stuck.
You just /leave general and then /join general and it will work again.

does reload the ui but doesnt fix the bug of not being able to talk in general/world

It's happened a few times to me as well. I just wait it out and eventually it works again. I think maybe you get silenced for spamming or something.

/reload and /reloadui didn't work for me. It finally started working after a few restarts to the game client. No issues today and I've been playing for a few hours.

After more experimenting, I found that, like others have said, /reload or re-logging doesn't always work, and that sometimes /leave and join general helps.

I don't know if this will help, but it helped me when I was encountering my chat windows messing up.

If you are in "Auto Join Guild Recruitment Channel" setting is in Interface Advanced options, uncheck that.

Yeah i've had this happen to me a lot, never happened to me on the pvp server but on here most of the time i cannot type in any of the chats only whisper...

It hasn't happened in several days for me. I do remember not being able to /leave general. Chat just froze up. Like I said, seems to be working fine now.
